Die sogenannte Tausendjährige Eiche in Schlimpfhof ist ein Naturdenkmal im Naturpark Bayerische Rhön – auch wenn ihr tatsächliches Alter mit etwa 400 Jahren deutlich unter dem Namen liegt. Es handelt sich um eine Stileiche, die direkt am Feuerwehrhaus des kleinen Ortes steht und durch ihren ungewöhnlichen Wuchs sofort ins Auge fällt. Der Stamm ist stark unregelmäßig geformt, am Boden massiv breit und verjüngt sich rasch nach oben. Auf einer Seite ist der Stamm vollständig geöffnet, was einen direkten Blick auf das morsche Innere ermöglicht. In rund drei Metern Höhe lässt sich erkennen, dass dort einst ein großer Ast abgebrochen ist. Die einst mächtige Krone ist heute stark reduziert und besteht nur noch aus einem Hauptast. Trotz ihrer Höhe von etwa 14 Metern und einem beeindruckenden Stammumfang von rund 7,4 Metern ist die Vitalität der Eiche eher schlecht. Dennoch steht sie unter besonderem Schutz und zeugt von der Geschichte und Naturkraft der Region.
Le soi-disant chêne millénaire de Schlimpfhof est un monument naturel du parc naturel de la Rhön bavaroise - même si son âge réel d'environ 400 ans est nettement inférieur à son nom. Il s'agit d'un chêne pédonculé qui se trouve directement à côté de la caserne des pompiers de la petite localité et qui attire immédiatement l'attention par sa croissance inhabituelle. Le tronc a une forme très irrégulière, est massivement large à la base et se rétrécit rapidement vers le haut. Sur un côté, le tronc est complètement ouvert, ce qui permet d'avoir une vue directe sur l'intérieur pourri. À environ trois mètres de hauteur, on peut voir qu'une grosse branche s'y est autrefois brisée. La couronne autrefois imposante est aujourd'hui fortement réduite et ne se compose plus que d'une branche principale. Malgré sa hauteur d'environ 14 mètres et une circonférence de tronc impressionnante d'environ 7,4 mètres, la vitalité du chêne est plutôt mauvaise. Il bénéficie néanmoins d'une protection particulière et témoigne de l'histoire et de la force naturelle de la région.
The so-called thousand-year-old oak in Schlimpfhof is a natural monument in the Bavarian Rhön Nature Park - even if its actual age of around 400 years is significantly less than its name. It is an oak tree that stands right next to the fire station of the small village and immediately catches the eye with its unusual growth. The trunk is very irregularly shaped, massively wide at the base and tapers rapidly towards the top. One side of the trunk is completely open, allowing a direct view of the rotten interior. At a height of around three meters, it can be seen that a large branch once broke off there. The once mighty crown is now greatly reduced and consists of just one main branch. Despite its height of around 14 meters and an impressive trunk circumference of around 7.4 meters, the vitality of the oak is rather poor. Nevertheless, it is under special protection and bears witness to the history and natural power of the region.
