L'église de la ville de Themar est dédiée à Saint Barthélémy. Elle fait partie des églises les plus richement décorées de la haute vallée de la Werra. Elle est l'un des rares bâtiments de la petite ville sur la Werra, dont l'existence est attestée depuis 796, à avoir résisté à toutes les tempêtes du temps. L'église supérieure, située près de la porte supérieure, et l'église inférieure, située près de la Werra, furent les premiers lieux de culte de la ville. De l'église inférieure romane, il reste des vestiges dans la sacristie et les deux étages inférieurs du clocher situés au-dessus.
The town church of Themar is dedicated to St. Bartholomew. It is one of the most richly furnished churches in the upper Werra Valley. It is one of the few buildings in the small town on the Werra, which has been historically documented since 796, that survived all the storms of time. The upper church at the upper gate and the lower church at the Werra were the first places of worship in the town. Remains of the Romanesque lower church are still preserved in the sacristy and the two lower floors of the church tower above it.
Die Stadtkirche Themar ist dem Heiligen Bartholomäus geweiht. Sie gehört zu den am reichsten ausgestatteten Kirchen des oberen Werratals. Sie ist eines der wenigen Gebäude der seit 796 geschichtlich nachweisbaren kleinen Stadt an der Werra, die alle Stürme der Zeit überdauerten. Die Oberkirche am oberen Tor und die Unterkirche an der Werra waren die ersten Gotteshäuser im Ort. Von der romanischen Unterkirche sind noch Reste in der Sakristei und den darüber liegenden beiden unteren Etagen des Kirchturms erhalten.
