Following the granting of market rights in 1586, today's historic town hall was acquired as an "old house" and completely redesigned. Since then, the striking half-timbered building with its impressive open staircase has shaped the townscape. Below the entrance were two small rooms - the so-called "fool's houses" - in which evildoers were once locked up. On the outer façade, neck irons and pillories bear witness to the administration of justice at the time. A special accent in the townscape is the carillon in the town hall tower, which chimes daily at 11.01 am, 3.01 pm and 6.01 pm. The performance begins with the striking of the hour, followed by a short sequence of notes leading to the actual melody. The repertoire ranges from the Rhönlied and the Frankenlied to pieces by the Rhön Baroque composer Valentin Rathgeber. On Sundays and public holidays, chorales open the day. The bells, cast in the Royal Foundry of the Netherlands, have been ringing out over Ostheim since 1999. An automatic chime system with electronic control makes them ring. This musical highlight was made possible by donations from the people of Ostheim - initiated by the dedicated couple Ingrid and Gerhard Schmidt.
Nach der Verleihung der Marktrechte im Jahr 1586 wurde das heutige historische Rathaus als „altes Haus“ erworben und grundlegend umgestaltet. Der prägnante Fachwerkbau mit seiner eindrucksvollen Freitreppe prägt seither das Ortsbild. Unterhalb des Eingangs lagen zwei kleine Räume – die sogenannten „Narrenhäuschen“ –, in denen einst Übeltäter eingesperrt wurden. An der Außenfassade zeugen Halseisen und Pranger von der damaligen Rechtsprechung. Ein besonderer Akzent im Stadtbild ist das Glockenspiel im Rathausturm, das täglich um 11.01 Uhr, 15.01 Uhr und 18.01 Uhr erklingt. Die Aufführung beginnt mit dem Stundenschlag, gefolgt von einer kurzen Tonfolge, die zur eigentlichen Melodie überleitet. Das Repertoire reicht vom Rhönlied über das Frankenlied bis hin zu Stücken des Rhöner Barockkomponisten Valentin Rathgeber. An Sonn- und Feiertagen eröffnen Choräle den Tag. Die Glocken, gegossen in der königlichen Gießerei der Niederlande, ertönen seit 1999 über Ostheim. Eine automatische Spielanlage mit elektronischer Steuerung bringt sie zum Klingen. Möglich wurde dieses musikalische Highlight durch Spenden der Ostheimer Bevölkerung – initiiert vom engagierten Ehepaar Ingrid und Gerhard Schmidt.

En dessous de l'entrée se trouvaient deux petites pièces - appelées "Narrenhäuschen" - dans lesquelles on enfermait autrefois les malfaiteurs. Sur la façade extérieure, des fers au cou et un pilori témoignent de la jurisprudence de l'époque. Le carillon de la tour de l'hôtel de ville, qui retentit tous les jours à 11h01, 15h01 et 18h01, constitue un accent particulier dans le paysage urbain. L'exécution commence par la sonnerie des heures, suivie d'une courte séquence de sons qui mène à la mélodie proprement dite. Le répertoire va du "Rhönlied" au "Frankenlied" en passant par des morceaux de Valentin Rathgeber, compositeur baroque de la Rhön. Les dimanches et jours fériés, des chorales ouvrent la journée. Les cloches, fondues à la fonderie royale des Pays-Bas, résonnent au-dessus d'Ostheim depuis 1999. Un système de carillon automatique avec commande électronique les fait sonner. Ce temps fort musical a été rendu possible grâce aux dons de la population d'Ostheim - initiés par le couple engagé Ingrid et Gerhard Schmidt.
