Die weithin sichtbare St. Marienkirche Tegkwitz steht markant auf einem Hang und prägt das Dorfbild mit ihren zwei spitzen Türmen. Das Gotteshaus geht auf eine Kapelle zurück, die um 1170 entstanden ist, und wurde 1228 erstmals erwähnt; stilistisch verbindet es romanische und gotische Elemente. Im Mittelalter war die Kirche ein bedeutender Wallfahrtsort – geweiht der Jungfrau Maria und ausgestattet mit einem wundertätigen Marienbild –, was 1469 zur Verleihung eines päpstlichen Ablassbriefs führte, bestätigt 1471 durch den Bischof von Naumburg. Zwischen 1484 und 1488 entstand durch zusätzliche Mittel der neu erbaute, westliche Turm, dessen hohe Spitze zwischen 1490 und 1493 vollendet und 1500 ein neuer Glockenstuhl installiert wurde; das gotische Kirchenschiff folgte 1520/21. Im Inneren zeugen Emporen (1703 ergänzt), eine Kanzel von 1650 (später über den Altar versetzt) und eine spätbarocke Orgel von 1770 – heute im Händel-Haus in Halle – von reicher Ausstattung und Geschichte. Die Glocken stammen von 1873 aus Apolda, wovon im Zweiten Weltkrieg zwei abgeliefert wurden; heute läutet nur noch eine davon.
The St. Mary's Church in Tegkwitz, visible from afar, stands prominently on a hillside and dominates the village with its two pointed towers. The church dates back to a chapel built around 1170 and was first mentioned in 1228; stylistically, it combines Romanesque and Gothic elements. In the Middle Ages, the church was an important place of pilgrimage – dedicated to the Virgin Mary and equipped with a miraculous image of Mary – which led to the granting of a papal letter of indulgence in 1469, confirmed in 1471 by the Bishop of Naumburg. Between 1484 and 1488, additional funds were used to build the new western tower, whose high spire was completed between 1490 and 1493, and a new belfry was installed in 1500; the Gothic nave followed in 1520/21. Inside, galleries (added in 1703), a pulpit from 1650 (later moved above the altar), and a late Baroque organ from 1770—now in the Handel House in Halle—bear witness to the church's rich furnishings and history. The bells date from 1873 and come from Apolda, two of which were delivered during World War II; today, only one of them still rings.
