The Church of the Redeemer in Braunsbreda is a fine example of Neo-Romanesque architecture with an eventful history. Originally built in 1270, the church was renovated in the Baroque style in the 18th century and extensively renovated again between 1873 and 1877. Medieval remains were unearthed during this work and are now on display in the Merseburg Museum. In particular, the apse, which was added during the renovation, shows a return to the Romanesque style. The square west tower, rebuilt in the 17th century, still has original late-Gothic windows. The furnishings are almost entirely from the 19th century, giving the interior a harmonious, historic appearance. The organ by Friedrich Ladegast from 1876 and the richly decorated wooden ceiling are particular highlights of the interior. A historical event links the church with the Prussian King Frederick II, who climbed the church tower to survey the situation before the Battle of Roßbach in 1757. Traces of this royal past can still be seen in the area around the church.
