Christoph W. Hufeland war einer der bedeutendsten Humanisten und Mediziner seiner Zeit. Zu seinen Patienten zählten Goethe, Schiller, Herder und Wieland, die er in der Zeit in Weimar als Hofarzt kennenlernte und die dazu beitrugen, dass er der Reformator des Gesundheitswesens werden konnte. Hufeland war Leibarzt am preußischen Hof und maßgeblich an der Gründung der heutigen Humboldt-Universität in Berlin beteiligt. Als Arzt an der Charité galt sein Bemühen der Volksgesundheit und Seuchenbekämpfung. Er richtete 1810 die erste Poliklinik in Berlin ein. Anlässlich seines 50-jährigen Arztjubiläums verlieh ihm die Stadt Langensalza 1833 das Ehrenbürgerrecht.

His patients included Goethe, Schiller, Herder and Wieland, whom he met during his time in Weimar as a court physician and who contributed to his becoming the reformer of health care. Hufeland was personal physician at the Prussian court and was instrumental in founding what is now Humboldt University in Berlin. As a physician at the Charité, his efforts were directed toward public health and disease control. He established the first polyclinic in Berlin in 1810. On the occasion of his 50th anniversary as a physician, the city of Langensalza awarded him honorary citizenship in 1833.
