Ce petit caveau néogothique situé sur un versant de Limbach a été aménagé par les fils de Gotthelf Greiner (1732-1797), le fondateur de la manufacture de porcelaine de Limbach. Alors que Gotthelf Greiner lui-même était encore enterré à Steinheid, la famille d'entrepreneurs voulait désormais se créer une sépulture représentative en face de leur usine. Ils érigèrent tout d'abord un obélisque en plaques de fonte de fer sur un socle en grès, en souvenir de Gotthelf Greiner. Derrière ce monument, le caveau a été construit entre 1831 et 1839. Il contenait au sous-sol la sépulture proprement dite de la famille et à l'étage une autre pièce. Le caveau Greiner est considéré comme le plus ancien bâtiment néogothique du sud de la Thuringe, construit en dehors de la cour ducale. Entre 1992 et 2013, le bâtiment a été restauré à grands frais. Au total, plus de 100.000 € ont été investis. Plusieurs bailleurs de fonds ont participé au financement. La salle supérieure est désormais un lieu de recueillement non confessionnel situé directement sur le Rennsteig. De nombreux randonneurs s'y arrêtent lors de leur périple. Le "Livre des bonnes pensées", disponible ici, témoigne déjà de moments de calme, de recueillement et de paix intérieure. Le caveau est ouvert tous les jours pendant les mois d'été et est directement accessible depuis un parking situé sur la B 281. Le caveau Greiner est une étape le long de la Via Porta et l'un des chemins de Saint-Jacques passe également par là.
This small neo-Gothic tomb on a slope in Limbach was created by the sons of Gotthelf Greiner (1732-1797), the founder of the Limbach porcelain factory. While Gotthelf Greiner himself was still buried in Steinheid, the entrepreneurial family now wanted to create a representative burial place vis a vis their factory. They first erected an obelisk made of cast iron plates on a sandstone base in memory of Gotthelf Greiner. Behind it, the crypt was built between 1831 and 1839, containing the family's actual burial place in the basement and another room on the upper floor. The Greiner crypt is considered the oldest neo-Gothic building in southern Thuringia that was built outside the ducal court. Between 1992 and 2013, the building was extensively restored. In total, more than 100,000 € were invested. Several funding agencies participated in the financing. The upper room is now a non-denominational place of reflection directly on the Rennsteig, with numerous hikers stopping in on their way. The "Book of Good Thoughts", which is available here, already reports on moments of peace, reflection and inner peace. The crypt is open daily during the summer months and can be reached directly from a parking lot on the B 281. The Greiner crypt is a stop along the Via Porta and one of the St. James paths also passes here.
Diese kleine neugotische Gruft an einem Hang in Limbach wurde durch die Söhne Gotthelf Greiners (1732-1797), des Gründers der Limbacher Porzellanmanufaktur, angelegt. Während Gotthelf Greiner selbst noch in Steinheid bestattet wurde, wollte sich die Unternehmerfamilie nunmehr eine repräsentative Grablege vis-à-vis ihrer Fabrik schaffen. Sie errichteten zunächst einen Obelisken aus Eisengussplatten auf einem Sandsteinsockel, der an Gotthelf Greiner erinnerte. Dahinter entstand zwischen 1831 und 1839 die Gruftanlage, die im Untergeschoss die eigentliche Grablege der Familie und im Obergeschoss einen weiteren Raum enthielt. Die Greiner-Gruft gilt als das älteste neugotische Gebäude Südthüringens, das außerhalb des herzoglichen Hofes entstand. Zwischen 1992 und 2013 wurde das Bauwerk aufwendig restauriert. Insgesamt wurden dabei mehr als 100.000 € investiert. Mehrere Fördermittelgeber beteiligten sich an der Finanzierung. Der obere Raum ist jetzt eine konfessionsungebundene Besinnungsstätte direkt am Rennsteig. Zahlreiche Wanderfreunde kehren auf ihrer Runst ein. Von Momenten der Ruhe, Besinnung und des inneren Friedens berichtet schon jetzt das „Buch der guten Gedanken“, das hier ausliegt. Die Gruft ist in den Sommermonaten täglich geöffnet und von einem Parkplatz an der B 281 aus direkt zu erreichen. Die Greiner-Gruft ist eine Station entlang der Via Porta und einer der Jakobswege führt hier ebenfalls vorbei.
