Charakterystycznym elementem jest samonośny strop z betonu sprężonego, którego spód pokryty jest drewnianymi panelami, a którego ułożenie podkreśla przekątną pomieszczenia. Dzięki temu we wnętrzu powstaje zaskakujące wrażenie przestrzeni.
St. Michael’s Evangelical Church is a striking example of modern church architecture from the 1960s. The hall-style building, with a square floor plan measuring 18 by 18 meters, was constructed in 1962–63 according to plans by architect Olaf Andreas Gulbransson. A distinctive feature is the self-supporting prestressed concrete ceiling, whose underside is clad with wood panels and whose orientation emphasizes the diagonal lines of the space. This creates a surprising sense of spaciousness inside. From the outside, the church resembles a large stone ship. This effect is enhanced by the asymmetrically curved copper roof, whose towering northwest edge resembles a ship’s bow. The walls are made of concrete and clad with local red sandstone. The freestanding campanile with its pointed pyramidal roof resembles a mast. Following Gulbransson’s untimely death, the plans were implemented by Karl Schwabenbauer, who added additional windows and brought more light into the building. The complex is complemented by a parsonage and a kindergarten, designed as an L-shaped, single-story structure with flat roofs.
