Gera's market square forms a self-contained ensemble with the town pharmacy and its Renaissance-style sculptured ecker (1606), the Simson fountain, created by Christof Junghans in 1685/86, and the beautiful town houses. The Renaissance town hall, built from 1573-76, with its 57m high tower and attractive Renaissance portal dominates the market square. Since 1988, the hand-played tower chimes, the so-called "Carillon", with its 37 bells, have been sounding in the tower lantern of the town hall.
Der Geraer Marktplatz bildet ein in sich geschlossenes Ensemble mit der Stadtapotheke und ihrem im Renaissancestil plastisch gestalteten Ecker (1606), dem Simsonbrunnen, der 1685/86 von Christof Junghans geschaffen wurde, und den schönen Bürgerhäusern. Das Renaissance-Rathaus, errichtet von 1573-76, mit dem 57 m hohen Turm und dem attraktiven Renaissance-Portal, dominiert den Marktplatz. Seit 1988 erklingt in der Turmlaterne des Rathauses das handgespielte Turmglockenspiel, das sogenannte "Carillon", mit seinen 37 Glocken.
