Seine Aufgaben als Stadtorganist umfassten die musikalische Gestaltung der Gottesdienste in der Hauptkirche St. Marien und den drei Nebenkirchen sowie die Instandhaltung der Orgelwerke. Die Folgen eines großen Stadtbrandes im Mai 1707 veranlassten den jungen Musiker Mühlhausen bereits 1708 für eine Anstellung in Weimar zu verlassen. <p>When Johann Sebastian Bach auditioned in 1707 in the Church of Blaise the Divine he must have made a lasting impression. As city organist he was responsible for the musical programme of the services in St. Mary’s Church and its three associated churches, as well as the maintenance of the organs. Due to the consequences of the great fire of May 1707 the young musician left Mühlhausen already in 1708 to take up a new assignment in Weimar. His cantata „Gott ist mein König“, also known as <em>Ratswechselkantate</em> (cantata of the transition of the councils) was finished in February 1708 while he was still in Mühlhausen.</p> |
