Auf den 11 Kilometern kommt man entlang des Kirchbachs und dem ehemaligen Krebs-Fluss, der Kreck, zurück nach Heldburg. Die Veste über der Stadt mit dem Deutschen Burgenmuseum ist perfekt, um über Heldburg zu schauen und die Wanderung ausklingen zu lassen. Nach der grünen Natur im Wald kommen hier auch Kultur- und Geschichtsliebhaber auf ihre Kosten.

Vom „Alten Bahnhof“ geht es entlang des Kirchbachs bei Wegpunkt 67, vorbei am Feuerteich und am Rektorsteich zum Dreiherrenstein. Dort biegt man links ab, überquert dann die Landstraße bei WP 62 und wandert Richtung Polendenkmal. Linker Hand liegt die Kreck, der man aufwärts Richtung Heldburg folgt. Das von der stolzen Veste bewachte Städtchen ist eine Augenweide. Bei einem Gang durch die beschaulichen Gassen bietet sich eine mittelalterliche Bilderbuchkulisse. Ein Abstecher auf den Burgberg lohnt sich. Die Veste Heldburg ist ein wahres Märchenschloss. Bei schönem Wetter wird man von dem 45 m hohen Turm mit einem herrlichen Panoramablick belohnt.
