Ihre ehemalige Grenzlage hat Ummerstadt, die zweitkleinste Stadt Deutschlands, über Jahrzehnte in einen Dornröschenschlaf versetzt. Auch in den Jahrhunderten zuvor war die Zeit scheinbar stehengeblieben. Das historische Ortsbild der Fachwerkstadt ist vollständig erhalten geblieben und steht unter Denkmalschutz. Besonders sehenswert sind der Marktplatz mit dem Marktbrunnen, das historische Rathaus, die Rodachbrücke sowie die Kirchen St. Andreas und St. Bartholomäus. Die Wanderung führt vorbei an Rappersquelle und Rappersgraben – ein geschütztes Geotop. Am Ummerstädter Kreuz kann man nachempfinden, wie sich die Menschen während der Zeit der deutschen Teilung fühlten, wenn man von der Anhöhe hinab auf den Friedhof blickt. Damals war dies die einzige Möglichkeit, Abschied von verstorbenen Verwandten und Freunden aus der DDR zu nehmen. In Ummerstadt kann man das Zweiländermuseum besuchen oder gemütlich einkehren.

At the Ummerstädter Kreuz you can imagine how people felt during the time of the German division when looking down from the hill onto the cemetery. Back then, this was the only way to say goodbye to deceased relatives and friends from the GDR. In Ummerstadt, you can visit the Zweiländermuseum or relax in a cozy place.
