Als der sächsische Kurfürst 1530 mit einer Delegation zum Reichstag nach Augsburg reiste, musste Martin Luther zu seinem Schutz in Coburg zurückbleiben. Er bezog für fast sechs Monate Quartier auf der Veste Coburg – einer der größten und besterhaltendsten Burganlagen Deutschlands. Luther verfasste hier zahlreiche weltberühmte Schriften, arbeitete an der Übersetzung des Alten Testaments, schrieb die „Coburger Psalmen“ sowie eine Auslegung des 117. und 118. Psalms und vieles mehr. Berühmt wurden auch Luthers Briefe an Frau, Kinder, an Melanchthon und andere. "Sterbe ich, so will ich ein Geiste werden und die Bischöfe, Pfaffen und gottlosen Mönche dergestalt plagen, dass sie mit einem gestorbenen Luther mehr zu schaffen haben sollten denn mit tausend Lebendigen". Heute erinnern in der Veste Coburg die sogenannte Lutherkapelle und die beiden „Lutherzimmer“ mit wertvollen Bildern und dem berühmten „Hedwigsbecher“ an den Aufenthalt des Reformators. Eine Audio-Vision in der Veste Coburg zeigt in deutscher und englischer Sprache die wichtigsten Stationen im Leben Martin Luthers und in Coburg. In der Landesbibliothek in Schloss Ehrenburg befindet sich die Luther-Bibliothek mit der einzigartigen Cranach-Bibel und Erstdrucken Luthers. In der Kirche St. Moriz predigte Luther sieben Mal während der Osterwoche. Eine Büste sowie eine Sonderausstellung erinnern an den Reformator. In benachbarten Neustadt bei Coburg machte Martin Luther mehrmals Station.

Lorsque l'électeur saxon partit en 1530 à la Diète d'Augsbourg avec une délégation, Martin Luther dut rester à Coburg pour sa protection. Il occupa un logement presque six mois au Veste Coburg, l'un des plus grands et mieux conservés châteaux d'Allemagne. Luther y rédigea de nombreux écrits célèbres, travailla à la traduction de l'Ancien Testament, écrivit les « Psaumes de Coburg » ainsi qu'un commentaire des psaumes 117 et 118, entre autres. Ses lettres à sa femme, ses enfants, à Melanchthon et d'autres devinrent également célèbres. "Si je meurs, je deviendrai un esprit et tourmenterai les évêques, prêtres et moines impies de telle sorte qu'ils auront plus à faire avec un Luther mort qu'avec mille vivants." Aujourd’hui, au Veste Coburg, la chapelle dite de Luther et les deux « chambres de Luther » avec des tableaux précieux et le célèbre « gobelet d’Hedwige » rappellent le séjour du réformateur. La bibliothèque d’État du château Ehrenburg abrite la bibliothèque Luther avec la Bibel Cranach unique et des premières éditions des œuvres de Luther. Luther prêcha sept fois durant la semaine de Pâques à l'église St. Moriz. Un buste ainsi qu'une exposition spéciale commémorent le réformateur. When the Saxon Elector traveled to the Imperial Diet in Augsburg in 1530 with a delegation, Martin Luther had to remain in Coburg for his protection. He stayed for almost six months at Veste Coburg – one of the largest and best-preserved castles in Germany. Luther wrote numerous world-famous writings here, worked on the translation of the Old Testament, wrote the "Coburg Psalms," as well as a commentary on the 117th and 118th Psalms, and much more. Luther’s letters to his wife, children, Melanchthon, and others also became famous. "If I die, I will become a spirit and so torment the bishops, priests, and godless monks that they will have more to do with a dead Luther than with a thousand living ones." Today, the so-called Luther Chapel and the two "Luther rooms" with valuable paintings and the famous "Hedwig cup" in Veste Coburg commemorate the reformer's stay. The Luther Library with the unique Cranach Bible and first prints of Luther is located in the state library at Ehrenburg Palace. Luther preached seven times during Easter week in St. Moriz Church.
