Das erste Teilstück führt entlang der Hohen Straße, einer jahrhundertealten Handelsstraße, die früher Bayern/Hessen und Sachsen miteinander verband. Eine tolle Aussicht, bevor der Wanderer in die Schmalkalder Flur eintaucht. Große Teile des westlichen und mittleren Thüringer Waldes sind am Horizont auszumachen. Vorbei an der Herrenkuppe geht es hinunter in den idyllischen Volkerser Grund. Dem Bachlauf folgend und vorbei an zwei Teichen erreicht man den Ortsteil Volkers. 300 Meter nach dessen letzten Häusern biegt die Route ab ins Roßbachtal und führt zur Quelle und der daneben stehenden Hütte – seit Generationen beliebtes Ausflugsziel der Schmalkalder Bürger. In dieser Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit wird Rasten zum Bedürfnis! Weiter führt der Weg zum Wolfsberg. Hier liegt dem Wanderer das Schmalkaldetal zu Füßen. In der Ferne grüßt der Turm auf dem Großen Inselsberg. Am Waldrand entlang und über die „Hundehütte“ geht der Wanderweg zur Notstraße und zurück zum Parkplatz am Hotel.

La première partie suit la Hohe Straße, une route commerciale vieille de plusieurs siècles qui reliait autrefois la Bavière/Hesse et la Saxe. Une superbe vue avant que le randonneur ne pénètre dans la plaine de Schmalkalden. De vastes parties de la forêt de Thuringe occidentale et centrale se dessinent à l'horizon. En passant par la Herrenkuppe, on descend dans le charmant Volkerser Grund. Suivant le cours du ruisseau et passant devant deux étangs, on atteint le hameau de Volkers. 300 mètres après les dernières maisons, le parcours tourne vers la vallée du Roßbach et mène à la source et à la cabane voisine – une destination très prisée des habitants de Schmalkalden depuis des générations. Dans ce calme et cette solitude, la pause devient un besoin ! Le chemin continue jusqu'au Wolfsberg. Ici, la vallée de Schmalkalden s'étend aux pieds du randonneur. Au loin, la tour du Großer Inselsberg salue. Le sentier longe la lisière de la forêt et passe par la « Hundehütte » avant de rejoindre la Notstraße et revenir au parking de l'hôtel.

The first section runs along the Hohe Straße, a centuries-old trade route that once connected Bavaria/Hesse and Saxony. A great view before the hiker descends into the Schmalkalden meadows. Large parts of the western and central Thuringian Forest can be seen on the horizon. Passing Herrenkuppe, it goes down into the idyllic Volkerser Grund. Following the stream and past two ponds, you reach the Volkers district. 300 meters past its last houses, the route turns off into the Roßbach valley and leads to the spring and the adjacent hut – a popular excursion destination of Schmalkalden citizens for generations. In this peace and seclusion, resting becomes a necessity! The path continues to Wolfsberg. Here, the Schmalkalden valley lies at the hiker’s feet. In the distance, the tower on the Großer Inselsberg greets. Along the forest edge and over the “dog hut,” the hiking trail goes to the Notstraße and back to the parking lot at the hotel.
