Zunächst folgt man der Hohen Straße, einer jahrhundertealten Handelsstraße, die früher die Regionen Würzburg/Frankfurt a.M. und Leipzig miteinander verband. Eine prächtige Aussicht, bevor der Wanderer auf dem sanft ansteigenden Weg in den Wald eintaucht: Der Pleß mit seinem Turm ist deutlich auszumachen und große Teile des westlichen und mittleren Thüringer Waldes am Horizont. Bis zum Hohen Meißner bei Eschwege reicht bei günstigem Wetter der Blick. Am Rand einer Waldwiese liegt die Mergelgrube, eine ehemalige Abbaustelle für Kalkmergel, den die Bauern früher auf ihre sauren Buntsandsteinböden zur Neutralisierung aufbrachten. Im großen Bogen umrundet man die Herrenkuppe, zunächst im Wald, später auf einem Feldweg. Auf der Hohen Straße geht es wieder zurück zum Ausgangspunkt der kleinen Wanderung.

First, you follow the Hohe Straße, a centuries-old trade route that formerly connected the regions of Würzburg/Frankfurt a.M. and Leipzig. A magnificent view before the hiker immerses into the forest on the gently ascending path: The Pleß with its tower is clearly visible, as are large parts of the western and central Thuringian Forest on the horizon. On favorable weather, the view extends to the Hoher Meißner near Eschwege. At the edge of a forest meadow lies the marl pit, a former quarry for lime marl that farmers used on their acidic Buntsandstein soils for neutralization. You circle the Herrenkuppe in a large loop, initially through the forest, later on a field path. The path returns to the starting point of the short hike via the Hohe Straße.

On suit d'abord la Hohe Straße, une route commerciale centenaire qui reliait autrefois les régions de Wurtzbourg/Francfort-sur-le-Main et Leipzig. Une magnifique vue avant que le randonneur ne s'enfonce dans la forêt en suivant le chemin légèrement montant : on distingue nettement le Pleß avec sa tour et de vastes parties de la forêt de Thuringe occidentale et centrale à l'horizon. Par temps favorable, la vue s'étend jusqu'au Hoher Meißner près d'Eschwege. Au bord d'une prairie forestière se trouve la carrière de marne, un ancien site d'extraction de marne calcaire que les agriculteurs utilisaient autrefois pour neutraliser leurs sols acides de grès rouge. On contourne largement la Herrenkuppe, d'abord dans la forêt, puis sur un chemin de champ. On revient sur la Hohe Straße pour retourner au point de départ de cette petite randonnée.
