Professor Dr. Adolf Tegtmeier (1894-1975), Ehrenbürger der Stadt Bad Berka, war bis 1966 Ärztlicher Direktor der Zentralklinik. Seit 1924 kämpfte er als Arzt in der Sophienheilstätte auf dem Emskopf oberhalb von München gegen die Volksseuche Tuberkulose. 1934 übernahm er als Chefarzt die Leitung der Heilstätte. Liegekuren in der waldreichen gesunden Bad Berkaer Luft waren zunächst ein wichtiger Aspekt bei der Behandlung seiner lungenkranken Patienten. Inzwischen erinnert ein verkleinerter Nachbau einer der damals üblichen Liegehallen gegenüber der Zentralklinik Bad Berka an die einstigen Liegekuren. Mit der Einführung neuer Röntgen-, Behandlungs- und Operationsmethoden erzielte Prof. Dr. Tegtmeier in den Folgejahren große Heilerfolge. Nachdem sich durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg die Tuberkulose erneut stark ausbreitete, entwickelte Tegtmeier Pläne für ein neues modernes Klinikum. Die Zentralklinik für Lungenkrankheiten Bad Berka entstand unter seiner Leitung ab 1951. Sie war der erste große Krankenhausneubau der DDR. Prof. Dr. Tegtmeier hatte einen großen Anteil an der Bekämpfung der Tuberkulose und an der Neuausrichtung der Zentralklinik als führendes Herzzentrum des Landes. Der Rundwanderweg führt an Stationen entlang, die für Prof. Dr. Adolf Tegtmeier besonders wichtig waren: sein einstiges Haus in der Max-Linke-Straße 9, das er ab 1951 bis zu seinem Tod bewohnte; seine Wirkungsstätte - die Zentralklinik - und die bereits erwähnte Liegehalle, die gleichzeitig als Buswartehäuschen fungiert und viele interessante Informationen zur Heilung der Tuberkulose enthält. Als sehr naturverbundener Mensch liebte Prof. Tegtmeier entspannende Wanderungen im nahegelegenen Wald.

Grand amoureux de la nature, le professeur Tegtmeier appréciait les randonnées relaxantes dans la forêt voisine.

Bed rest cures in the forest-rich healthy Bad Berka air were initially an important aspect in the treatment of his lung patients. Meanwhile, a scaled-down replica of one of the then customary lying halls opposite the Bad Berka Central Clinic commemorates the former bed rest cures. With the introduction of new X-ray, treatment and surgical methods, Prof. Dr. Tegtmeier achieved great healing successes in the following years. After tuberculosis spread again strongly due to World War II, Tegtmeier developed plans for a new modern clinic. The Central Clinic for Lung Diseases Bad Berka was built under his direction from 1951. It was the first major new hospital construction in the GDR. Prof. Dr. Tegtmeier contributed greatly to combating tuberculosis and to the reorientation of the Central Clinic as a leading heart center of the country. The circular hiking trail leads past stations that were particularly important to Prof. Dr. Adolf Tegtmeier: his former house at Max-Linke-Straße 9, which he lived in from 1951 until his death; his workplace - the Central Clinic - and the already mentioned lying hall, which also serves as a bus shelter and contains many interesting information about curing tuberculosis. As a very nature-loving person, Prof. Tegtmeier loved relaxing hikes in the nearby forest.
