Le chemin n'est pas long, mais avec 16 stations d'information sur la forêt, il est très intéressant pour les petits et les grands. Du système racinaire à la vie dans la couronne de l'arbre, il y a beaucoup de choses intéressantes à apprendre. Un sentier tactile et un jeu de ruisseau constituent des attractions particulières. Le sentier de découverte de la forêt commence à la maison des sources des grottes de Feen. Il est marqué d'un carré vert. Il serpente à travers une vallée depuis le parking des grottes de la fée jusqu'à la "classe verte", toujours en légère montée. Jusqu'à la "salle de classe verte", le sentier est accessible aux poussettes et aux fauteuils roulants électriques. Il y a également une possibilité de pique-nique. Au niveau de la "classe verte", le sentier de découverte de la forêt bifurque à gauche du chemin principal en formant un angle aigu. Il monte lentement. Au bout d'un moment, notre sentier croise le "Revolutionsweg". Après environ 200 m, le sentier de découverte de la forêt bifurque à nouveau à gauche du chemin principal. Il descend progressivement. Au-dessus des grottes de fées, le chemin sort de la forêt. On a ici une belle vue sur Saalfeld et ses environs. Après avoir profité de la vue, il faut encore descendre un chemin de prairie jusqu'à l'entrée des grottes de fées. De là, il n'y a que quelques mètres jusqu'au point de départ de la randonnée.
