Riche en merveilles géologiques, le sentier didactique naturel de Gangolfsberg offre un aperçu particulier de l’histoire géologique de la Rhön. Les points forts du parcours sont la paroi prismatique en basalte et la légendaire « cave du diable » - témoins du volcanisme dans la Rhön. Pour continuer à découvrir l’histoire de la colonisation, les vestiges de la chapelle de Gangolf au sommet de la montagne invitent également à l’exploration. Aucun usage forestier n’a lieu le long du sentier, ce qui permet à la forêt mixte de feuillus de se développer intacte. Des panneaux d’information le long du chemin expliquent les arbres indigènes. La forêt primaire est une réserve ornithologique abritant différentes espèces d’oiseaux ainsi que la molène buissonnante et la reine-des-bois. D’autres panneaux d’information à l’entrée du sentier didactique naturel informent également sur la présence de la chatte sauvage dans la zone centrale. Des possibilités de restauration sont offertes tant au refuge Rhönklubhütte Schweinfurter Haus qu’à la Thuringer Hütte.

Reich an geologischen Sehenswürdigkeiten, bietet der Naturlehpfad am Gangolfsberg einen besonderen Einblick in die Rhöner Entstehungsgeschichte. Highlight der Tour sind die Prismenwand aus Basalt und der sagenumwobene Teufelskeller - Zeugen des Vulkanismus in der Rhön. Zum weiteren Entdecken der Besiedlungsgeschichte laden auch die Überreste der Gangolfskapelle am Gipfel des Berges ein. Entlang des Lehrpfades findet keine forstliche Nutzung mehr statt, weshalb sich der Laubmischwald unberührt entwickeln kann. Über die heimischen Bäume klären Lehrtafeln entlang des Weges auf. Der Urwald ist als Vogelschutzgebiet Zuhause verschiedener Vogelarten und beheimatet Buschwildröschen und Waldmeister.  Auch über die in der Kernzone nachgewiesene Wildkatze informieren weitere Informationstafeln am Eingang des Naturlehrpfades. Sowohl an der Rhönklubhütte Schweinfurter Haus als auch an der Thüringer Hütte bestehen Möglichkeiten zur gastronomischen Einkehr.

Rich in geological sights, the nature trail at Gangolfsberg offers a special insight into the Rhön's geological history. Highlights of the route are the basalt prism wall and the legendary Devil's Cellar - witnesses of volcanism in the Rhön. To further explore the settlement history, the remains of the Gangolf Chapel on the summit of the mountain also invite discovery. Along the trail, there is no longer any forestry use, so the deciduous mixed forest can develop undisturbed. Information boards along the way explain the native trees. The primeval forest is a bird sanctuary home to various bird species and harbors wild roses and sweet woodruff.  Further information boards at the entrance of the nature trail also provide information about the wildcat found in the core zone. Both at the Rhönklubhütte Schweinfurter Haus and at the Thuringian hut there are opportunities for gastronomic refreshment.

Anschließend bei der Ausfahrt 25 Bad Neustadt an der Saale auf die B297 in Richtung Bad Neustadt/Bischofsheim/Bad Königshofen abfahren und der B279 in Richtung Oberelsbach/Wollbach folgen.
