Die Tafeln bieten Informationen zu den Beweidungsprojekten im Nationalpark und zum Namensgeber des Weges, Euphydryas aurinia, dem Goldenen Scheckenfalter. Sein Vorkommen im Nationalpark ist das individuenreichste in ganz Deutschland auf Trockenstandorten. Der Bewohner von offener Lebensräume (im Gegensatz zu Wald) gilt sowohl in Deutschland als auch in Thüringen als stark gefährdet.</p> <p>Der Weg führt am Waldrand entlang und biegt nach wenigen Meter in einen lichten Wald aus Eiche, Hainbuche, Birke, Weißdorn, Hasel, Esche und Pappel nach links. Wir passieren einige Fichten, die der Trockenheit und dem Borkenkäfer zum Opfer gefallen sind. Fichten sind im Nationalpark nicht heimisch, insofern ist ihr Absterben ein Schritt hin zu mehr Natur.</p> <p><strong>Korridor</strong></p> <p>Wir erreichen den „Korridor“. Dieser verbindet die Schutzzone 1 des Nationalparks mit der Schutzzone 2. Es handelt sich um eine künstlich geschaffene Schneise durch den Wald. Ziel dieser Schneise ist es, dass Individuen des Goldenen Scheckfalters aus Schutzzone 1 langsam in die beweidete Schutzzone 2 wandern können. In den kommenden Jahren werden auf den noch verbliebenen Offenlandlebensräumen der Schutzzone 1 langsam wieder Sträucher und Bäume wachsen. In Schutzzone 2 hingegen bleibt der Lebensraum des Goldenen Scheckenfalters erhalten, da Weidetiere hier die Landschaft offenhalten. Wir wandern ca. 400 Meter am Korridor entlang. Im Sommer blühen hier zahlreichen Pflanzen wie Wilde Karde, Wegwarte, Wilde Möhre und Skabiose.</p> <p>Mit etwas Glück entdeckt man hier auch den ein oder anderen Falter.</p> <p><strong>Sitzraufe und Bank mit Ausblick</strong></p> <p>Nach einem kurzen Wegstück durch den Wald erreichen wir eine Sitzraufe, die zu einer Pause einlädt. Von hier genießt man einen wunderschönen Blick nach Süden zur berühmten Wartburg. Wir wandern nun entlang des Weidezaunes bergab und erreichen die Bank zum Andenken an unseren Ranger Ronald Demuth. Er machte sich sehr verdient um die Kartierung von Faltern im Nationalpark und wurde nach und nach zum Experten für Falter und andere Insekten. Im Geäst oberhalb der Bank befindet sich das Model eines Nashornkäfers, bei dem der Name durchaus Programm ist.</p> <p>Nach einem weiteren Stück durch den Wald erreichen wir wieder den Ausgangpunkt am Wanderparkplatz.</p>

Seating rack and bench with a view After a short stretch through the forest, we reach a seating rack inviting a break. From here, you enjoy a beautiful view to the south towards the famous Wartburg. We now hike downhill along the pasture fence and reach the bench dedicated to our ranger Ronald Demuth. He made significant contributions to mapping butterflies in the national park and gradually became an expert on butterflies and other insects. In the display case above the bench is a model of a rhinoceros beetle, where the name is certainly fitting. After another stretch through the forest, we reach the starting point at the hiking car park again.
