Der Ausgangspunkt des Lehrpfades ist im Zentrum von Bad Köstritz, gegenüber vom Heinrich-Schütz-Haus, nur wenige Meter von der Bad Köstritz-Information entfernt. Eine große Tafel des Wanderweges gibt einen Überblick über die gesamte Wegstrecke, die eine Länge von 13 km hat und markiert ist.  Entlang der Werner-Sylten-Straße geht es ca. 200 m bis zum linken Abzweig in den Gleinaer Weg und nach dem Park weiter nach rechts zur ehemaligen „Villa Zersch“. Dort überqueren wir den 12. Längengrad und wenden uns in Richtung „Gipsbruch“. Dazu gehen wir den Berg hinab und folgen den Radweg etwa 200 Meter Richtung Caaschwitz bis zur nächsten Abzweigung. Wenig später erreichen wir die Stelle, an der bis 1919 gewerbsmäßig Gips abgebaut wurde. Bedeutend für die Geschichtsforschung war dieser Gipsbruch durch die spektakulären archäologischen Funde des Köstritzer Hofrates und Arztes Dr. Schottin und des Freiherren von Schlotheim aus Gotha in den Jahren 1820 bis 1828. Sie fanden neben Resten von mehreren Eiszeittieren auch menschliche Skelettknochen. (Tafel 1) Weiter führt uns der Weg rechterhand und dann den Ausschilderungen folgend zum Ortsteil Gleina mit seinem bereits 1250 erwähnten Kirchlein. Die Gemeinde Gleina mit ca. 150 Einwohnern hat eine interessante Geschichte von der Jungsteinzeit über die slawische Besiedlung bis in die Neuzeit. (Tafel 2 und Tafel 3). Hier findet der Wanderer auch die nächste Tafel zur weiteren Orientierung sowie eine ausführliche Dokumentation zu bekannten Archäologen und Heimatforschern, die in dieser Region erfolgreich gewirkt haben. (Tafel 7)  Wir verlassen den Ort in Höhe des Vereinshauses nach links und gelangen zum Standort eines sogenannten „Lagers von Wildpferdjägern“ aus dem Magdalenien, ca. 16.000 bis 14.000 vor der Zeitrechnung. Dieses wurde vom Heimatforscher Willi Mißlitz aus Gera entdeckt. (Tafel 4) Nach etwa 500 m erreicht man ein Plateau auf dem Höhenweg oberhalb von Gleina, der uns einen herrlichen Blick über das Dorf und das davor liegende Tal der Weißen Elster gewährt. Der Weg führt weiter in das „Klosterholz“. Dort stoßen wir auf ein um die 4.500 Jahre altes Hügelgrab aus der Jungsteinzeit. (Tafel 5) Wir folgen dem ausgeschilderten Weg bis zum Waldparkplatz und kommen an einem weiteren Hügelgrab vorbei. Dort informieren wir uns an einer Schautafel über den nachfolgenden Streckenverlauf. Entlang der Markierungen führt der Weg durch den Wald zum kleinen Rastplatz im „Borngrund“ bei Gleina. Hier informieren Tafeln über Ausgrabungen am „Kolk“, dem Fundort von „Schnurkeramik“ der Jungsteinzeit. Einer Besiedlung mit Funden dieser Tongefäße wurde in Thüringen erstmals hier untersucht. (Tafel 6) Von diesem Ort aus geht der Lehrpfad auf dem Wanderweg an Gleina vorbei in Richtung Bad Köstritz über den Gleinaer Weg zurück bis ins Zentrum - zum Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung.

Le point de départ du parcours didactique se trouve au centre de Bad Köstritz, en face de la maison Heinrich-Schütz, à seulement quelques mètres de l’office d’information de Bad Köstritz. Un grand panneau du parcours donne un aperçu de la longueur totale du trajet, qui est de 13 km et balisé.  Le long de la Werner-Sylten-Straße, il faut avancer environ 200 m jusqu’à la bifurcation à gauche vers le Gleinaer Weg, puis, après le parc, continuer à droite en direction de l’ancienne « Villa Zersch ». Là, nous franchissons le 12e degré de longitude et nous nous dirigeons vers la « carrière de gypse ». Pour cela, nous descendons la colline et suivons la piste cyclable sur environ 200 m en direction de Caaschwitz jusqu’à la prochaine bifurcation. Peu après, nous atteignons l’endroit où du gypse a été exploité industriellement jusqu’en 1919. Cette carrière a une importance historique majeure en raison des spectaculaires découvertes archéologiques réalisées entre 1820 et 1828 par le conseiller de cour et médecin de Köstritz, le Dr Schottin, et le baron de Schlotheim de Gotha. Ils ont trouvé, en plus des restes de plusieurs animaux de l’âge glaciaire, des ossements humains. (Panneau 1) Le chemin continue à droite puis, en suivant les panneaux, vers le quartier de Gleina avec sa petite église mentionnée déjà en 1250. La commune de Gleina, qui compte environ 150 habitants, possède une histoire riche allant du néolithique, en passant par la colonisation slave, jusqu’à l’époque moderne. (Panneaux 2 et 3). Le promeneur y trouve également le panneau suivant pour mieux s’orienter ainsi qu’une documentation détaillée sur les archéologues et chercheurs locaux renommés ayant travaillé avec succès dans cette région. (Panneau 7)  Nous quittons le village à hauteur de la maison des associations sur la gauche et atteignons l’emplacement d’un présumé « camp de chasseurs de chevaux sauvages » datant du Magdalénien, environ 16 000 à 14 000 avant notre ère. Ce site a été découvert par le chercheur local Willi Mißlitz de Gera. (Panneau 4) Après environ 500 m, on atteint un plateau sur le sentier en hauteur au-dessus de Gleina, qui offre une superbe vue sur le village et la vallée devant, celle de la Weiße Elster. Le chemin se poursuit dans le « Klosterholz ». Là, nous trouvons un tumulus vieux d’environ 4 500 ans, datant du néolithique. (Panneau 5) Nous suivons le chemin balisé jusqu’au parking forestier et passons près d’un autre tumulus. Là, une panneau 'd’information explique la suite du parcours. Suivant les marquages, le chemin traverse la forêt jusqu’à une petite aire de repos dans le « Borngrund » près de Gleina. Des panneaux y expliquent les fouilles sur le « Kolk », lieu de découverte de la « poterie à cordons » du néolithique. Une colonisation avec des trouvailles en céramique de ce type a été pour la première fois explorée ici, en Thuringe. (Panneau 6) De cet endroit, le parcours didactique revient par le sentier à côté de Gleina en direction de Bad Köstritz par le Gleinaer Weg jusqu’au centre-ville - le point de départ de la promenade.

The starting point of the educational trail is in the center of Bad Köstritz, opposite the Heinrich-Schütz-Haus, just a few meters from the Bad Köstritz information center. A large board of the route provides an overview of the entire path, which is 13 km long and marked.  Along Werner-Sylten-Straße, continue about 200 m to the left turn onto Gleinaer Weg and after the park, turn right toward the former "Villa Zersch." There we cross the 12th meridian and turn toward the "Gipsbruch" (gypsum quarry). To do this, descend the hill and follow the bike path about 200 meters toward Caaschwitz to the next turn. Shortly after, you reach the site where gypsum was commercially mined until 1919. This gypsum quarry is significant for historical research due to spectacular archaeological finds by the Köstritz councilor and doctor Dr. Schottin and the Freiherr von Schlotheim from Gotha between 1820 and 1828. They found remains of several Ice Age animals as well as human skeleton bones. (Board 1) The path then leads to the right and, following the signs, to the Gleina district with its church mentioned as early as 1250. The Gleina community, with about 150 inhabitants, has an interesting history from the Neolithic period through Slavic settlement to modern times. (Boards 2 and 3). Here, hikers will also find the next board for further orientation, as well as a detailed documentation on well-known archaeologists and local historians who have worked successfully in this region. (Board 7)  We leave the village near the community center by turning left and reach the site of a so-called "camp of wild horse hunters" from the Magdalenian period, around 16,000 to 14,000 BCE. This site was discovered by local historian Willi Mißlitz from Gera. (Board 4) After about 500 m, you reach a plateau on the high path above Gleina, which offers a magnificent view over the village and the valley of the White Elster in front of it. The path continues into the "Klosterholz" (monastery wood). Here we encounter a burial mound about 4,500 years old from the Neolithic period. (Board 5) We follow the marked path to the forest parking lot and pass another burial mound. There we inform ourselves at an information board about the subsequent route. Following the markers, the path leads through the forest to a small rest area in the "Borngrund" near Gleina. Here boards inform about excavations at the "Kolk," the find site of "corded ware" from the Neolithic period. A settlement with finds of these ceramic vessels was first investigated here in Thuringia. (Board 6) From this location, the educational trail continues on the path past Gleina toward Bad Köstritz along the Gleinaer Weg back to the center – the starting point of the route.
