Der Griffelpfad ist ein historisch-geologische Rundwanderweg bei Steinach im Nationalen Geopark Schieferland. Der 6,6 km lange Themenweg widmet sich den Schreibgriffeln – Stiften aus Stein. Er führt den Wanderer vom Parkplatz der Skiarena Silbersattel auf steilen Pfaden hinauf auf den 842 m hohen Fellberg. Insgesamt sind 300 Höhenmeter zu überwinden. Unterwegs beschreiben Schautafeln die geologischen Besonderheiten und die Griffelproduktion. Die Tour führt zum ältesten und weltweit bekanntesten Griffelbruch und zu drei weiteren aufgelassenen Griffelbrüchen. Aussichtspunkte ins Schiefergebirge, den Frankenwald und das Maintal, Halden, Stollen und Stätten der Griffelbearbeitung, ein Sessellift sowie Rastplätze, Gaststätten und Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten sorgen für Abwechslung und laden den Wanderer ein. Naturfreunde wird das Naturschutzgebiet Leierloch begeistern: Felsformationen und Naturwald sind die Heimat seltener Tier- und Pflanzenarten. Auf Anfrage vermitteln der Naturpark Thüringer Wald oder die Tourist-Info der Schieferstadt Steinach Führungen auf dem Griffelpfad.

Le sentier Griffelpfad est un circuit de randonnée historique et géologique près de Steinach dans le Parc géologique national Schieferland. Le sentier thématique de 6,6 km est consacré aux griffes d'écriture – crayons en pierre. Il conduit le randonneur du parking de la station de ski Silbersattel par des sentiers raides jusqu'au Fellberg culminant à 842 m. Au total, 300 mètres de dénivelé sont à franchir. En chemin, des panneaux expliquent les particularités géologiques et la production des griffes. Le parcours mène à la plus ancienne et mondialement connue carrière de griffes et à trois autres carrières abandonnées. Des points de vue sur le massif de schiste, la forêt de Franconie et la vallée du Main, des terrils, des galeries et des lieux de travail des griffes, un télésiège ainsi que des aires de repos, des restaurants et des possibilités d'hébergement offrent de la variété et invitent le randonneur à la flânerie. Les amoureux de la nature seront enchantés par la réserve naturelle Leierloch : formations rocheuses et forêt naturelle abritent des espèces rares de faune et de flore. Sur demande, le parc naturel du Thüringer Wald ou l'office de tourisme de la ville de schiste Steinach proposent des visites guidées sur le Griffelpfad.

The Griffel Path is a historical-geological circular hiking trail near Steinach in the National Geopark Slate Land. The 6.6 km thematic trail is dedicated to writing slates – pencils made of stone. It leads the hiker from the Ski Arena Silbersattel car park up steep paths to the 842 m high Fellberg. A total of 300 meters of elevation must be overcome. Along the way, display panels describe the geological features and the production of the slate pencils. The route leads to the oldest and world-famous slate quarry and three other abandoned quarries. Viewpoints overlooking the slate mountains, the Franconian Forest, and the Main valley, heaps, tunnels, and sites of slate pencil processing, a chairlift, as well as rest areas, inns, and accommodation offer variety and invite the hiker. Nature lovers will be thrilled by the Leierloch nature reserve: rock formations and natural forest are home to rare species of animals and plants. On request, the Thuringian Forest Nature Park or the tourist info of the slate town Steinach offer guided tours on the Griffel Path.

Der Rennsteig, der Frankenwald, das Fichtelgebirge mit Schneeberg und der Ochsenkopf sind in Sichtweite. Es geht weiter bergauf zur Bergstation des Sesselliftes der Skiarena Silbersattel. Gleich in der Nähe findet man den Fellbergstein - 842m ü. NHN. Vom Gipfel des Fellberg geht es auf einem schmalen Pfad bergab in Richtung Westen durch den Griffelbruch zur Fellbergbaude. Der Weg führt nun in Richtung Süden entlang der breiten Waldstraße bis zur nächsten Wegekreuzung. Nach weiterem Abstieg gelangt man zum Leierloch, einem Naturschutz-Totalreservat. Und weiter talwärts wird das Gasthaus Waldfrieden erreicht. Fast ohne Anstrengung erreicht man das Steinbächlein bevor es wieder bergauf zur Plattenburg geht. Nach Überqueren des Steilhanges der Skiarena Silbersattel an dessen Talstation wird der Schieferbruch Steinbächlein erreicht. Auf einer Forststraße gelangt man wieder zum Startpunkt der Tour am Naturparktour Thüringer Wald - Steinach.
