Der Rundwanderweg Berkach ist eine abwechslungsreiche Tour durch die Geschichte und Natur des Grabfelds. Er startet am Wirtshausplatz in der Dorfmitte und führt westwärts entlang der Mühlfelder Straße. Danach folgt er dem Plattenweg bis zur ehemaligen innerdeutschen Grenze. Von hier bietet sich ein herrlicher Ausblick auf Schwickershausen und seinen Stausee. Der Weg folgt dem Plattenweg nach rechts bis zur Waldwegekreuzung, an der man wieder nach rechts abbiegt und nach ca. 100 m nochmals rechts bis zum Bachlauf der Grüne gelangt. Von hier aus kann man alternativ einen Abstecher zum Stauseerastplatz unternehmen oder direkt auf dem Wirtschaftsweg zurück nach Berkach gelangen.

Le parcours de randonnée circulaire de Berkach est un parcours varié à travers l'histoire et la nature du Grabfeld. Il commence à la Wirtshausplatz au centre du village et mène vers l'ouest le long de la rue Mühlfelder. Puis il suit le chemin en dalles jusqu'à l'ancienne frontière intérieure allemande. De là, la vue sur Schwickershausen et son lac de retenue est magnifique. Le chemin suit le chemin en dalles vers la droite jusqu'à la croisée des chemins forestiers, où l'on tourne de nouveau à droite, puis après environ 100 m encore à droite jusqu'au cours d'eau 'Grüne'. The Berkach circular hiking route is a varied route through the history and nature of the Grabfeld region. It starts at the Wirtshausplatz in the village center and leads west along Mühlfelder Straße. Then it follows the paved path to the former inner-German border. From here, there is a splendid view of Schwickershausen and its reservoir. The path follows the paved path to the right to the forest road intersection, where you turn right again and after about 100m turn right again to reach the creek Grüne. From here, an alternative detour to the reservoir rest area is possible, or you can return directly to Berkach along the farm road.

Von hier führt der Weg Richtung Westen entlang der Mühlfelder Straße. Man kommt an der Syna­goge vorbei, welche 1854 mit dem danebenstehenden Schulhaus feier­lich eingeweiht wurde.</p> <p>In der Synagoge stand ein To­raschrein mit sechs Torarollen. Beim Novemberpogrom 1938 blieb die Synagoge unzerstört. Sie wurde von der jüdischen Gemeinde Berkach im Jahr 1939 unter Druck an die politi­sche Gemeinde verkauft und von dieser 1942 an den Sparkassen- und Darlehensverein. Ab 1949 wurde die ehemalige Synagoge von der Verei­nigung der gegenseitigen Bauern­hilfe (VdgB), später von der Land­wirtschaftlichen Produktionsgenos­senschaft (LPG) als Lagerraum und Schmiede genutzt.</p> <p>Ab 1990 wurde unter der Leitung der Denkmalpflege die Synagoge von Grund auf erneuert. Am 3. No­vember 1991 wurde das Gebäude vom hessischen Landesrabbiner Chaim Lipschitz unter Anwesenheit der damaligen Bundestagspräsiden­tin Rita Süssmuth wieder als Syna­goge eingeweiht.</p> <p>Hinter Berkach beginnt ein Platten­weg, den der Weg bis zur ehemali­gen Grenze folgt. An dieser ange­kommen hat man einen schönen Blick auf Schwickershausen mit sei­nem Stausee. Hier muss man nach rechts in Richtung des Sees abbie­gen und aber zunächst den Platten­weg bis zur nächsten Waldwege­kreuzung folgen. Hier wieder nach rechts ab­biegend kommt man we­nig später zum Wirtschaftsweg am Bachlauf der Grüne, von dem das Südufer des Sees nur wenige Meter entfernt liegt und der immer einen Abstecher wert ist.</p> <p>Der Weg jedoch biegt abermals rechts ab, folgt dem Bach Grüne bis kurz vor Berkach und stößt hier am Ortseingangsschild an die Haupt­straße. Dieser folgt er wieder bis zum Wirtshausplatz.</p>

From here, the route leads westwards along Mühlfelder Straße. You pass the synagogue, which was solemnly inaugurated in 1854 with the adjoining school building.</p> <p>The synagogue housed a Torah ark with six Torah scrolls. During the November pogrom of 1938, the synagogue remained undamaged. In 1939, under pressure, the Jewish community of Berkach sold it to the political municipality, which sold it in 1942 to the Savings and Loan Association. From 1949, the former synagogue was used as a storage room and smithy by the Association of Mutual Agricultural Aid (VdgB) and later by the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG).</p> <p>From 1990, under the direction of the monument preservation office, the synagogue was extensively renovated. On November 3, 1991, the building was re-inaugurated as a synagogue by the Hessian state rabbi Chaim Lipschitz in the presence of the then President of the Bundestag Rita Süssmuth.</p> <p>Behind Berkach begins a paved path, which the route follows to the former border. Upon arrival, there is a beautiful view of Schwickershausen with its reservoir. Here you must turn right towards the lake but initially follow the paved path to the next forest road intersection. Beginnen kann man die Wanderung am Wirtshausplatz in der Dorfmitte. Von hier führt der Weg Richtung Westen entlang der Mühlfelder Straße. Man kommt an der Syna­goge vorbei, welche 1854 mit dem danebenstehenden Schulhaus feier­lich eingeweiht wurde. In der Synagoge stand ein To­raschrein mit sechs Torarollen. Beim Novemberpogrom 1938 blieb die Synagoge unzerstört. Sie wurde von der jüdischen Gemeinde Berkach im Jahr 1939 unter Druck an die politi­sche Gemeinde verkauft und von dieser 1942 an den Sparkassen- und Darlehensverein. Ab 1949 wurde die ehemalige Synagoge von der Verei­nigung der gegenseitigen Bauern­hilfe (VdgB), später von der Land­wirtschaftlichen Produktionsgenos­senschaft (LPG) als Lagerraum und Schmiede genutzt. Ab 1990 wurde unter der Leitung der Denkmalpflege die Synagoge von Grund auf erneuert. Am 3. No­vember 1991 wurde das Gebäude vom hessischen Landesrabbiner Chaim Lipschitz unter Anwesenheit der damaligen Bundestagspräsiden­tin Rita Süssmuth wieder als Syna­goge eingeweiht. Hinter Berkach beginnt ein Platten­weg, den der Weg bis zur ehemali­gen Grenze folgt. An dieser ange­kommen hat man einen schönen Blick auf Schwickershausen mit sei­nem Stausee. Hier muss man nach rechts in Richtung des Sees abbie­gen und aber zunächst den Platten­weg bis zur nächsten Waldwege­kreuzung folgen. Hier wieder nach rechts ab­biegend kommt man we­nig später zum Wirtschaftsweg am Bachlauf der Grüne, von dem das Südufer des Sees nur wenige Meter entfernt liegt und der immer einen Abstecher wert ist. Der Weg jedoch biegt abermals rechts ab, folgt dem Bach Grüne bis kurz vor Berkach und stößt hier am Ortseingangsschild an die Haupt­straße. Dieser folgt er wieder bis zum Wirtshausplatz.
