Am Südrand des Harzes, bei Duderstadt im Eichsfeld, ist das Grüne Band, der einmalige Naturraum entlang der früheren innerdeutschen Grenze und die Geschichte der deutschen Teilung hautnah zu erleben. Vom Grenzlandmuseum Eichsfeld geht es auf dem ehemaligen Grenzstreifen zum Gut Herbigshagen, wo der berühmte Tierfilmer Prof. Heinz Sielmann mit seiner Frau das 1. Heinz Sielmann Natur-Erlebniszentrum Deutschlands eingerichtet hat. Die Wanderung endet mit einem Rundgang durch die historischen Gassen der Duderstädter Altstadt mit ihrem beeindruckenden Ensemble von reich verzierten Fachwerkhäusern und mittelalterlichen Befestigungsanlagen.

At the southern edge of the Harz, near Duderstadt in Eichsfeld, the Green Belt—a unique natural area along the former inner-German border—and the history of the German division can be experienced up close. From the Eichsfeld Borderland Museum, the route follows the former border strip to Gut Herbigshagen, where the famous wildlife filmmaker Prof. Heinz Sielmann and his wife established Germany's first Heinz Sielmann Nature Experience Center. The hike ends with a tour through the historic alleys of Duderstadt’s old town, featuring an impressive ensemble of richly decorated half-timbered houses and medieval fortifications.
