Between 1441 and 1867, several hammer mills were operated here on the Effelder, which successfully knew how to use local raw materials and produced iron products of good quality. On the GeoPath Iron-Coal-Blast Furnace, we set out in search of the former production sites. We explore old hammer ditches and ponds, historic charcoal kiln sites, a demonstration charcoal burning site, as well as heaps and test pits of ore prospectors in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. These relics can be explored on a well-signposted hiking trail. Augustenthal owes its name to Martha Augusta von Uttenhoven, the wife of Baron Georg Christoph von Uttenhoven. He acquired the Sommer blast furnace at Oberhammer in 1727, built a second blast furnace, fresh fire, and a new forge hammer, leading to a tremendous boom. The inhabitants of Hämmern still refer to the blast furnace as Hanu:efn and mean today's Augustenthal. In Augustenthal and Melchersberg you will find food and lodging.

Zwischen 1441 und 1867 wurden hier an der Effelder  mehrere Hammerwerke betrieben, die erfolgreich heimische Rohstoffe zu nutzen wussten und Eisenprodukte guter Qualität herstellten.  Auf dem GeoPfad Eisen-Kohle-Hoher Ofen machen wir uns auf die Suche nach den einstigen Produktionsstätten. Wir erkunden alte Hammergräben und -teiche, historische Kohlenmeilerstätten und eine Schauköhlerei sowie Halden und Schürfgräben der Erzsucher im Thüringischen Schiefergebirge. Diese Relikte können auf einem gut beschilderten Wanderweg erkundet werden. Augustenthal verdankt seinen Namen Martha Augusta von Uttenhoven, der Ehefrau von Freiherr Georg Christoph von Uttenhoven. Er erwarb 1727 den Sommerschen Hochofen am Oberhammer, baute einen zweiten Hochofen, Frischfeuer und einen neuen Zainhammer und sorgte damit für einen gewaltigen Aufschwung. Die Hämmerer Einwohner sprechen noch heute vom Hanu:efn und meinen damit das heutige Augustenthal. In Augustenthal und Melchersberg findet ihr Kost und Logis.

Entre 1441 et 1867, plusieurs forges ont été exploitées ici à Effelder, qui ont su utiliser avec succès les matières premières locales et produire des produits en fer de bonne qualité. Sur le GeoSentier Fer-Charbon-Haut Fourneau, nous partons à la recherche des anciennes installations de production. Nous explorons de vieux biefs et étangs de marteaux, des anciennes stations de charbonniers historiques, une charbonnière d'exposition ainsi que des terrils et sondages des chercheurs de minerai dans le massif schisteux de Thuringe. Ces vestiges peuvent être découverts sur un sentier de randonnée bien balisé. Augustenthal doit son nom à Martha Augusta von Uttenhoven, l'épouse du baron Georg Christoph von Uttenhoven. En 1727, il a acheté le haut fourneau Sommer à Oberhammer, a construit un deuxième haut fourneau, un feu vif et un nouveau marteau Zain, entraînant ainsi un essor considérable.
