La 3e étape mène d'abord dans une réserve naturelle particulière appelée « Großer Weidenteich ». Le paysage ressemble à une lande et est couvert de buissons de genêts jaunes au printemps. À travers le paysage de bosses diabasiques caractéristiques du Vogtland central, on rencontre dans la région de Burgstein les ruines mystiques de deux églises de pèlerinage médiévales. À la frontière des diocèses de Bamberg et Naumburg, un pèlerinage a été créé en 1474 après une apparition mariale, accompagné de la construction d'une chapelle de pèlerinage. Lorsque le diocèse de Naumburg a appris le nombre élevé de visiteurs, une deuxième église a été commandée. Au cours de la Réforme, les églises ont été incendiées et oubliées. Ce n'est qu'à l'époque romantique qu'elles ont été redécouvertes par Hermann Vogel et ses amis. À proximité immédiate se trouve la seule source thermale du Vogtland. La température de l'eau est de 25 °C et, en raison de ses fortes teneurs en sodium, calcium et chlorure, elle est considérée comme une source minérale. L'eau, qui jaillit à la surface de la terre à une profondeur de 771 m, est inodore, claire et incolore, a un goût fade et une légère amertume salée en arrière-goût. Elle a été protégée dès 1962 en tant que monument naturel important. Le chemin longe ensuite le barrage de Pirk et traverse l'ancienne zone minière de Schönbrunn. La destination est la vieille ville d'Oelsnitz avec le château de Voigtsberg, visible de loin.

The 3rd stage first leads into a special nature reserve called "Großer Weidenteich." The landscape resembles a heathland and is covered in spring with yellow blooming broom bushes. Through the distinctive mid-Vogtland diabase dome landscape, one encounters in the Burgstein area the mystical ruins of two medieval pilgrimage churches. At the border of the Bamberg and Naumburg bishoprics, a pilgrimage was established in 1474 following a Marian apparition, connected with the construction of a pilgrimage chapel. When the Naumburg bishopric learned of the high visitor numbers, the second church was commissioned. During the Reformation, the churches were burned down and forgotten. They were only revived again during the Romantic period under Hermann Vogel and his friends. In the immediate vicinity is the only thermal spring of the Vogtland. The water temperature is 25°C and, due to its high sodium, calcium, and chloride values, is classified as a mineral spring. The water, which gushes from a depth of 771 m to the earth's surface, is odorless, clear, and colorless, tastes bland, and has a slightly bitter, salty aftertaste. It was already protected as an important natural monument in 1962. Now the path skirts the Pirk reservoir and leads through the former mining area of Schönbrunn. The destination is the old town of Oelsnitz with the far-visible Voigtsberg castle.

Die 3. Etappe führt zunächst in ein besonderes Naturschutzgebiet namens “Großer Weidenteich”. Die Landschaft gleicht einer Heidelandschaft und ist im Frühjahr übersät mit gelb blühenden Ginsterbüschen.  Durch die markante mittelvogtländische Diabaskuppenlandschaft trifft man im Burgsteingebiet auf die mystischen Ruinen zweier Wallfahrtskirchen aus dem Mittelalter. An der Grenze der Bistümer Bamberg und Naumburg entstand im Jahr 1474 nach einer Marienerscheinung eine Wallfahrt, verbunden mit der Errichtung einer Wallfahrtskapelle.   Als das Bistum Naumburg von den hohen Besucherzahlen erfuhr, wurde die zweite Kirche in Auftrag gegeben. Im Zuge der Reformation wurden die Kirchen niedergebrannt und vergessen. Erst in den Zeiten der Romantik wurden sie unter Hermann Vogel und seinen Freunden wieder neu belebt. In unmittelbarer Nähe befindet sich der einzige Thermalbrunnen des Vogtlandes.  Die Wassertemperatur beträgt  25°C und ist durch seine hohen Natrium-, Calcium- und Chlorid- Werte als Mineralquelle zu bezeichnen. Das Wasser, welches aus einer Tiefe von 771 m an die Erdoberfläche sprudelt,  ist geruchlos, klar und farblos, schmeckt fade und hat einen leicht bitteren, salzigen Nachgeschmack. Er wurde bereits 1962 als bedeutendes Naturdenkmal unter Schutz gestellt. Nun streift der Weg die Talsperre Pirk und führt durch das ehemalige Bergbaugebiet von Schönbrunn. Ziel ist die Altstadt von Oelsnitz mit dem weithin sichtbaren Schloss Voigtsberg.
