About: Stausee Birkungen

Die rund 35 Hektar große Talsperre Birkungen wurde einst als Brauchwasserspeicher für das Zementwerk Deuna gebaut und 1987 in Betrieb genommen. Heute ist der Stausee, der von der Ohne gespeist wird, als Puffer für den Hochwasserschutz und den Naturschutz von Bedeutung. Ein Rundweg direkt um den See lädt zum Wandern ein. Die Stadt Leinefelde‐Worbis will das Gewässer in den nächsten Jahren touristisch erschließen. Am Nordufer soll ein Campingpark mit Gastronomie und Badestrand entstehen. Künftig soll der See von Leinefelde aus über einen neuen Rad‐ und Fußweg direkt erreichbar sein.
