If there is a "classical" fountain in Weimar, this is it. The "Ildefonso Group" is a copy of a late antique mamoriginal that was located in what is now Madrid. Goethe had a copy made of "Kastor and Pollux", as he called the two young men, for his house on the Frauenplan. It was not until 1824 that the fountain was moved to its present location on Burgplatz - to the rear of the Red Palace. The passage next to the fountain leads directly to the study centre of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library.

Ce n'est qu'en 1824 que la fontaine a été déplacée à son emplacement actuel sur la Burgplatz, à l'arrière du Palais rouge. Le passage à côté de la fontaine mène directement au centre d'étude de la bibliothèque de la Duchesse Anna Amalia.

Goethe ließ sich von "Kastor und Pollux", wie er die beiden Jünglinge nannte, eine Kopie für sein Haus am Frauenplan herstellen. Erst 1824 wurde der Brunnen an die heutige Stelle auf dem Burgplatz gesetzt - an die Rückseite des Roten Schlosses. Der Durchgang neben dem Brunnen führt direkt zum Studienzentrum der Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek.
