In unmittelbarer Nähe der Landeshauptstadt Erfurt, am Ufer der Apfelstädt, liegt die Gemeinde Ingersleben. Bis zum Mittelalter gehörte der Ort zu den Besitztümern der Grafen von Gleichen, die hier eine befestigte Wehranlage unterhielten. Über Jahrhunderte war die Haupteinnahmequelle der Anbau von Waid, der mittelalterlichen Färbepflanze. Sehenswert ist das um 1680 erbaute Freisassenhaus, dass mit seinem reich verzierten Fachwerk eines der bedeutendsten Bauernhäuser der Umgebung ist. Bauherr der 1752 errichteten Marienthalbrücke war der Reichsgraf Gustav Adolph v. Gotter. Anfang der 90er Jahre unseres Jahrhunderts wurde die Barockbrücke umfassend saniert. Die Infrastruktur des Ortes ist vorrangig von der Landwirtschaft geprägt. Ingersleben ist Ortsteil der Landgemeinde Nesse-Apfelstädt.
