Der Meininger Marktplatz ist der älteste Platz der Stadt und bildet das Zentrum. Bereits im 10. Jahrhundert wurde er das erste Mal urkundlich erwähnt und früher befand sich hier auch das Meininger Rathaus. Heute befinden sich um den Marktplatz in Meiningen verschiedene Einzelhandelsgeschäfte, Cafés und Restaurants. Die Stadtkirche „Unsere lieben Frauen“ mit ihren beiden begehbaren Türmen überragt den Platz. Der Heinrichsbrunnen in der Mitte des Platzes gibt ihm ein besonderes Flair. Von Anfang März (je nach Witterung auch schon früher) bis Ende November ist in Meiningen zweimal pro Woche Markttag: der Grüne Markt am Dienstag und Freitag sowie der zusätzliche Wochenmarkt mit einem erweiterten Sortiment am Dienstag. Weiterhin gibt es über das Jahr verteilt verschiedene Sondermärkte wie beispielsweise den Frühlings-, Oster-, Herbst-, Martins- und Weihnachtsmarkt sowie diverse Antik- und Trödelmärkte. Der Marktplatz wird außerdem für zahlreiche Veranstaltungen über das Jahr hinweg genutzt.
La place du marché de Meiningen est la plus ancienne de la ville et en constitue le cœur. Mentionnée pour la première fois au Xᵉ siècle, elle abritait autrefois l'hôtel de ville. Aujourd'hui, la place du marché est bordée de boutiques, de cafés et de restaurants. L'église Notre-Dame, avec ses deux tours accessibles, la surplombe. La fontaine Heinrich, en son centre, lui confère un charme particulier. De début mars (voire plus tôt, selon la météo) à fin novembre, Meiningen accueille deux marchés par semaine : le marché bio les mardis et vendredis, et un marché hebdomadaire plus fourni le mardi. Tout au long de l'année, on y trouve également des marchés thématiques, comme ceux de printemps, de Pâques, d'automne, de la Saint-Martin et de Noël, ainsi que des brocantes et des marchés d'antiquités. La place du marché accueille aussi de nombreux événements.
Meiningen's market square is the oldest square in the city and forms its heart. It was first documented in the 10th century, and the Meiningen town hall was formerly located here. Today, the market square in Meiningen is surrounded by various retail shops, cafés, and restaurants. The Church of Our Lady, with its two accessible towers, overlooks the square. The Heinrich Fountain in the center of the square lends it a special charm. From the beginning of March (or even earlier, depending on the weather) until the end of November, Meiningen hosts two market days a week: the Green Market on Tuesdays and Fridays, and an additional weekly market with a wider selection of goods on Tuesdays. Throughout the year, there are also various special markets, such as the spring, Easter, autumn, St. Martin's Day, and Christmas markets, as well as several antique and flea markets. The market square is also used for numerous events throughout the year.
