Die Zisterzienserabtei Pforta, 1137 nahe Naumburg (Saale) gegründet, war einst ein bedeutendes Kloster im Osten Thüringens. Ursprünglich sollte das Kloster in Schmölln errichtet werden, doch wurde der Standort aufgrund gesellschaftlicher Unruhen verlegt. Die Mönche der Abtei widmeten sich intensiv dem Weinbau, der Landwirtschaft und der Nutzung von Wasserkraft. Die Klosterkirche, eine beeindruckende Basilika aus dem Jahr 1150, vereint Baustile verschiedener Epochen – von der Gotik bis zur Moderne. In ihrem Inneren finden sich besondere Holzskulpturen und zahlreiche Grabdenkmäler. Nach der Reformation wurde das Kloster geschlossen und im 16. Jahrhundert zu einer sächsischen Fürstenschule umgewandelt. Bis heute wird der historische Ort als Internat genutzt und hat berühmte Absolventen wie Friedrich Nietzsche hervorgebracht. Neben der Klosterkirche lädt auch die historische Bibliothek von 1570 zur Besichtigung ein. Das Areal, umgeben von einer mittelalterlichen Mauer, bietet einen Einblick in vergangene Jahrhunderte und diente bereits als Kulisse für Filme wie „Die Päpstin“. Die Landesschule Pforta, 1543 von Herzog Moritz von Sachsen, dem späteren Kurfürsten, im säkularisierten Zisterzienserkloster begründet, ist ein traditionsreiches Internatsgymnasium in Trägerschaft des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt. Sie entstand als eine der ersten staatlichen höheren Schulen Deutschlands und zählt berühmte Persönlichkeiten wie Nietzsche, Fichte und Klopstock zu ihren Schülern. Heute werden begabte Schülerinnen und Schüler aus ganz Deutschland in den Zweigen Musik, Naturwissenschaften und Sprachen von der 9. Klasse bis zum Abitur in Klasse 12 geführt.

L'école régionale de Pforta, fondée en 1543 par le duc Moritz de Saxe, futur prince électeur, dans le monastère cistercien sécularisé, est un lycée-internat riche en traditions, géré par le Land de Saxe-Anhalt. Il a été l'une des premières écoles supérieures publiques d'Allemagne et compte parmi ses élèves des personnalités célèbres telles que Nietzsche, Fichte et Klopstock. Aujourd'hui, des élèves talentueux de toute l'Allemagne sont accueillis dans les filières musique, sciences naturelles et langues, de la 9e classe jusqu'au baccalauréat en 12e classe.

It was one of the first state secondary schools in Germany and counts famous personalities such as Nietzsche, Fichte and Klopstock among its pupils. Today, talented pupils from all over Germany are taught music, science and languages from Year 9 to the Abitur in Year 12.
