La tranchée pour le flottage de l'Elster à Nempitz est une petite idylle et un monument technique qui doit faire revivre la tradition du flottage. Dans les années 1578 à 1580, le prince électeur August Ier de Saxe fit aménager un fossé pour radeaux qui devait permettre le flottage du bois. Le bois ainsi transporté était utilisé de manière ciblée pour alimenter des poêles d'ébullition afin de transformer la saumure en sel de cuisine. Cet ouvrage d'ingénierie d'importance suprarégionale représente, avec une longueur totale d'environ 93 km, dont plus de 80 km sont encore existants, le plus important système de canaux du 16e siècle sur le continent européen.
The Elsterflossgraben in Nempitz is a small idyll and technical monument that aims to revive the tradition of rafting. In the years 1578 to 1580, Elector Augustus I of Saxony had a raft ditch built to enable wood to be rafted. The wood transported in this way was specifically used to fire boiling pans in order to process brine into table salt. With a total length of approx. 93 km, of which over 80 km still exist, the nationally significant engineering structure is the most important canal system of the 16th century on the European continent.
Der Elsterfloßgraben in Nempitz ist ein kleines Idyll und technisches Denkmal, welches die Tradition des Flößens wieder aufleben lassen soll. In den Jahren 1578 bis 1580 ließ Kurfürst August I. von Sachsen einen Floßgraben anlegen, der das Holzflößen ermöglichen sollte. Das so transportierte Holz wurde gezielt zur Befeuerung von Siedepfannen genutzt, um Sole in Speisesalz zu verarbeiten. Das überregional bedeutende Ingenieurbauwerk stellt mit einer Gesamtlänge von ca. 93 km, wovon noch über 80 km vorhanden sind, das bedeutendste Kanalsystem des 16. Jahrhunderts auf dem europäischen Kontinent dar. Besichtigung individuell oder im Rahmen von buchbaren Führungen möglich.
