<p>Die erste Mühle, welche die Unstrut von Ammern kommend im Stadtgebiet von Mühlhausen antreibt, ist die Papiermühle. Die Papiermühle diente um 1450 als Eisenhütte mit Hammer und Schleifhütte. Papiermühle wurde sie erst 1829. Vor dieser Zeit hieß die Mühle Harnisch-Poliermühle, erstmals als solche 1542 genannt. </p><p>Sie lag etwa einen Kilometer vor der Stadt. Die Mühle hatte ein eigenes Wehr und ihr Gefälle betrug 2 ½ Ellen (1,40 Meter). 1586 wurde die Mühle durch Hochwasser zerstört. Die damals als Lederwalkmühle und auch als Pulvermühle betriebene Mühle wurde dann als Mahlmühle neu aufgebaut. Sie diente auch als Pulvermühle, diese explodierte jedoch 1602. 1790 kaufte der Ratsherr Christian Lutteroth die Mühle. Der Kaufmann Heinrich Wilhelm Röbling erwarb 1829 die Mühle als Mahl-, Öl- und Holzmühle und ließ sie zu einer Papiermühle umbauen. Der Besitzer ist der Onkel von Johann August Röbling, dem Brückenbauer. </p><p>Die Mühle hat 1835 drei unterschlächtige Wasserräder. 1850 ging die Mühle in den Besitz des Kaufmanns Eduard Bohn über. Dieser ließ sie 1851 in eine Mahlmühle und Spinnerei umbauen. Die Fabrikanten Bohn & Comp. betrieben hier eine Garnspinnmühle mit Streichgarnspinnerei und Garnbleicherei. 1865 wird ein Dampfkessel eingebaut. Der Einbau eines größeren Dampfkessels erfolgt im Jahr 1906, ebenso wird die Turbinenanlage erneuert. Nach einem Hochwasser stand die Papiermühle im Juli 1906 unter Wasser. Danach wurde das Wehr neu erbaut (1943 wieder erneuert). Die Mühle ist seit 1922 im Besitz der Firma J. C. Siegelmann aus Ammern, die sie weiterhin als Streichgarnspinnerei und Effektgarnzwirnerei einschließlich einer Färberei betreibt.</p><p>Der Mühlgraben, der die Turbine treibt, vereinigt sich unterhalb der Mühle wieder mit der Unstrut. Die Papiermühle wird nach 1972 Produktionsbereich des VEB Textilwerke Mühlhausen und 1990 in die Textilwerke Mühlhausen GmbH umgewandelt. </p><p>Das Gebäude der Papiermühle ist heute nicht mehr vorhanden, der Mühlgraben ist verfüllt. In den ausgebauten Nebengebäuden befindet sich seit 2011 die Urlaubs- und Verhinderungspflege „Zur alten Papiermühle“.</p><p> </p> |
