During the 2nd World War, Leubengrund was one of several camps in which forced labourers were housed. They had to work in the nearby underground armament production site REIMAHG (Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring) in the Walpersberg. Here the Me262 aircraft was to be built underground. During the work on and in the bunker system and due to the bad living conditions thousands of people died or were killed. After a memorial place directly at the Walpersberg was no longer accessible because of the use of the mountain as a military camp of the NVA, a memorial was erected in 1974 in the Leubengrund. Annual ceremonies are held at this site to commemorate the forced laborers, most of whom were deported from Italy, Belgium, Poland and other nations. An exhibition in the town museum in Kahla and the documentation centre in Großeutersdorf commemorate the forced labourers, the production of the Me-262 at Walpersberg and its military use.

Jährlich finden an diesem Ort Feierlichkeiten zum Gedenken an die Zwangsarbeiter statt, die zumeist aus Italien, Belgien, Polen und anderen Nationen verschleppt wurden. Eine Ausstellung im Stadtmuseum in Kahla und das Dokumentationszentrum in Großeutersdorf erinnern an die Zwangsarbeiter, die Produktion der Me-262 am Walpersberg und die militärische Nutzung.
