La maison Hohe Pappeln était la résidence privée de l'architecte et designer belge Henry van de Velde (1863-1957), qui est venu à Weimar en 1902 en tant que conseiller artistique du Grand Duc Wilhelm Ernst. Van de Velde a fait construire la maison selon ses propres plans en 1907/08 et y a vécu avec sa femme Maria et leurs cinq enfants jusqu'en 1917. Outre l'architecture, les installations et le mobilier, M. van de Velde a également conçu le jardin. Le centre et le cœur de la maison est le salon sur le Beletage. Le salon avec le bureau et la salle à manger attenants, l'escalier vers l'étage supérieur et l'escalier latéral sont tous accessibles à partir d'ici. Van de Velde a délibérément évité toute décoration ornementale. Il s'est plutôt orienté vers l'esthétique de l'industrie moderne et a conçu la maison de Hohe Pappeln selon des principes de praticité. La maison est une synthèse unique des arts dans laquelle la signature de Van de Velde se retrouve dans chaque détail.

Haus Hohe Pappeln was the former residence of the Belgian architect and designer Henry van de Velde (1863–1957), who was summoned to Weimar in 1902 to serve as artistic advisor to Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst. Van de Velde designed and built the house in 1907/08. He and his wife Maria and their five children lived there until 1917. In addition to the building itself, Van de Velde also personally designed all the furnishings, furniture and garden. The central junction and heart of the house is the living hall on the belétage. From there, one can enter the salon with its adjoining study and dining room, the staircase to the upper floor and a side staircase. Van de Velde deliberately disposed with ornamental and decorative elements. He was far more interested in the aesthetics of modern industry and designed Haus Hohe Pappeln based on principles of functionality. The house is a “total artwork” like no other, where every detail bears Van de Velde’s distinctive style.

Das Haus Hohe Pappeln war das private Wohnhaus des belgischen Architekten und Designers Henry van de Velde (1863–1957), der 1902 als künstlerischer Berater des Großherzogs Wilhelm Ernst nach Weimar kam. Van de Velde ließ das Haus 1907/08 nach eigenen Plänen errichten und bewohnte es bis 1917 zusammen mit seiner Frau Maria und den fünf Kindern. Neben der Architektur, den Einbauten und den Möbeln entwarf van de Velde auch den Garten, der besichtigt werden kann. Zentraler Knotenpunkt und Herz des Hauses ist die Wohndiele in der Beletage. Von hier aus erschließen sich der Salon mit angrenzendem Arbeits- und Speisezimmer, der Aufgang ins Obergeschoss sowie die Nebentreppe. Van de Velde verzichtete bewusst auf ornamentalen Zierrat. Vielmehr orientierte er sich an der Ästhetik der modernen Industrie und gestaltete das Haus Hohe Pappeln nach Prinzipien der Zweckmäßigkeit. Das Haus ist ein einzigartiges Gesamtkunstwerk, in dem van de Veldes Handschrift in jedem Detail zu finden ist.
