Beginnend mit der ersten urkundlichen Erwähnung der Stadt Mühlhausen wird weiter über Mühlhausen als freie Reichsstadt mit seinem Militär, die darauffolgende preußische Garnison, die Zeit der zwei Weltkriege, die verschiedenen Nutzungen in der Görmar-Kaserne nach Kriegsende, der Um- und Ausbau für die NVA und die Bundeswehr sowie als Erstaufnahmeeinrichtung für Flüchtlinge, bis hin zur heutigen Nutzung der Gebäude für Landratsamt und Gewerbeansiedlungen berichtet Die Führung beginnt in der Görmar-Kaserne, heute Lindenhof, an der Infotafel am Gedenkstein, kurz hinter der alten Wache und dauert ca. 1,5 Stunden. Es ist auf wetterfeste Kleidung und festes Schuhwerk zu achten, denn es wird unter anderem auch der technische Bereich und das neue Gewerbegebiet mit gewerblich-industrieller Nutzung besichtigt.

Il faut veiller à porter des vêtements résistant aux intempéries et des chaussures solides, car la visite comprendra entre autres le secteur technique et la nouvelle zone industrielle à usage commercial et industriel.
