The Schulenburg House was built from 1913 to 1914 as a residence for the family of the Gera textile manufacturer, orchid grower and patron of the arts Paul Schulenburg. The Belgian architect Henry van de Velde was responsible for the construction, interior design and garden design. Between 1997 and 2013, the Schulenburg House was lavishly restored and furnished true to the original on a private initiative. In 2012, the owners received the Thuringian and in 2018 the German Monument Protection Award. Haus Schulenburg houses is a private museum with a globally important collection of van de Velde's book designs.

Henry van de Velde (1863–1957), belgijsko-flamandzki malarz, architekt i reformator sztuki, był założycielem Szkoły Sztuki Użytkowej w Weimarze, poprzedniczki Bauhausu. W 1926 roku van de Velde założył L’École de la Cambre, „belgijskie Bauhaus”, szkołę architektury, sztuk pięknych i sztuki użytkowej w Brukseli, którą kierował do 1936 roku. Został on ukończony w 1914 roku. Turyńską Nagrodą Ochrony Zabytków, a w 2019 r.
