Bechstedt est une commune idyllique située dans le district de Saalfeld-Rudolstadt en Thuringe. Jusqu'en 1918, le village faisait partie de la souveraineté de la principauté de Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Un événement important dans l'histoire de Bechstedt a été un incendie dévastateur en 1915, qui a détruit une grande partie du village. La rangée de granges classées monument historique, qui caractérise aujourd'hui l'image du village, a été reconstruite après cet incendie. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Bechstedt n'a pas été épargné par les horreurs de l'époque. En décembre 1941, les SS ont exécuté en représailles onze jeunes prisonniers de guerre polonais du camp de concentration de Buchenwald sur une colline en bordure du village. Une pierre commémorative rappelle aujourd'hui ce crime. Aujourd'hui, Bechstedt est un point de départ apprécié pour des randonnées et des excursions dans les environs. Un point fort particulier est le Trippstein, un point de vue impressionnant d'où l'on a une vue magnifique sur le château de Schwarzburg et la vallée de la Schwarza. Le chemin de fer de la vallée de la Schwarza, qui circule toutes les heures, relie Bechstedt aux villages environnants et offre une possibilité confortable de découvrir la région.

With a population of around 140 people (as of December 31, 2023), Bechstedt offers a peaceful and natural living environment. The history of Bechstedt goes back a long way. The village was first mentioned in a document around 1267¹. Over the centuries, Bechstedt was mainly characterized by agriculture and forestry. Until 1918, the village belonged to the overlordship of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. A significant event in the history of Bechstedt was a devastating fire in 1915, which destroyed large parts of the village. The listed row of barns that characterize the village today was rebuilt after this fire. During the Second World War, Bechstedt was not spared the horrors of the time. In December 1941, the SS executed eleven young Polish prisoners of war from the Buchenwald concentration camp on a hill on the edge of the village as a measure of retribution. Today, a memorial stone commemorates this crime. Today, Bechstedt is a popular starting point for hikes and excursions in the surrounding area. A particular highlight is the Trippstein, an impressive vantage point from which you have a magnificent view of Schwarzburg Castle and the Schwarzatal valley. The Schwarzatalbahn, which runs every hour, connects Bechstedt with the surrounding villages and offers a convenient way to explore the region.

Der Ort wurde erstmals um das Jahr 1267 urkundlich erwähnt¹. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte war Bechstedt vor allem durch die Landwirtschaft und die Forstwirtschaft geprägt. Bis 1918 gehörte der Ort zur Oberherrschaft des Fürstentums Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. Ein bedeutendes Ereignis in der Geschichte von Bechstedt war ein verheerender Brand im Jahr 1915, der große Teile des Dorfes zerstörte. Die denkmalgeschützte Scheunenreihe, die heute das Dorfbild prägt, wurde nach diesem Brand wieder aufgebaut. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges wurde Bechstedt nicht von den Schrecken der Zeit verschont. Im Dezember 1941 exekutierte die SS auf einem Hügel am Dorfrand elf junge polnische Kriegsgefangene aus dem KZ Buchenwald als Vergeltungsmaßnahme. Ein Gedenkstein erinnert heute an dieses Verbrechen. Heute ist Bechstedt ein beliebter Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen und Ausflüge in die Umgebung. Ein besonderes Highlight ist der Trippstein, ein beeindruckender Aussichtspunkt, von dem aus man einen herrlichen Blick auf das Schloss Schwarzburg und das Schwarzatal hat. Die Schwarzatalbahn, die im Stundentakt verkehrt, verbindet Bechstedt mit den umliegenden Orten und bietet eine bequeme Möglichkeit, die Region zu erkunden.
