Schlechtsart est une petite commune idyllique située dans le district de Hildburghausen, dans le sud de l'État libre de Thuringe, marqué par la Franconie. La commune est située de manière pittoresque à la frontière entre la Bavière et la Thuringe et est entourée des montagnes Spanshügel, Brummharz, Bernhardshügel, Lindig, Kornberg et Stierhügel. Le village est traversé par le ruisseau Westhauser Kreck, une source de la Kreck. L'histoire de Schlechtsart remonte à loin. Le village a été mentionné pour la première fois dans un document en 1260. L'aspect du clocher est inhabituel : le maître d'œuvre a posé un toit à deux pans transversal sur la partie supérieure en colombage recouverte d'un enduit blanc. Sur le Krautberg se trouvent une croix commémorative pour les habitants du village tombés lors de la bataille des Nations à Leipzig et une autre pierre commémorative pour les habitants morts ou disparus pendant les deux guerres mondiales. Aujourd'hui, Schlechtsart est un village calme et tranquille qui séduit par son importance historique et sa nature magnifique. Schlechtsart ist eine kleine, idyllische Gemeinde im Landkreis Hildburghausen im fränkisch geprägten Süden des Freistaats Thüringen. Die Gemeinde liegt malerisch an der bayerisch-thüringischen Landesgrenze und ist von den Bergen Spanshügel, Brummharz, Bernhardshügel, Lindig, Kornberg und Stierhügel umgeben. Durch die Ortslage fließt der Bach Westhauser Kreck, ein Quellbach der Kreck. Die Geschichte von Schlechtsart reicht weit zurück. Der Ort wurde erstmals im Jahr 1260 urkundlich erwähnt. Die Grenzlage von Schlechtsart ist seit Jahrhunderten belegt, wie die Altenburg auf bayerischer Seite und eine Landwehr auf thüringischer Seite zeigen. Diese Grenzlage führte jedoch erst nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg zu einer völligen Isolation von Schlechtsart. Nach Jahrzehnten der Abgeschiedenheit wurde das Dorf 1989 mit der Grenzöffnung wieder erreichbar. Ein besonderes historisches Highlight in Schlechtsart ist die evangelische Kirche, die in den Anfängen spätromanisch ist und im Ort als Langhaus bekannt ist. Ungewöhnlich ist das Aussehen des Kirchturmes: auf den weiß verputzten Fachwerkaufsatz wurde von dem Baumeister ein querliegendes Satteldach gesetzt. Auf dem Krautberg befinden sich ein Gedenkkreuz für die in der Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig gefallenen Dorfbewohner und ein weiterer Gedenkstein für die Gefallenen und Vermissten Einwohner der beiden Weltkriege. Heute ist Schlechtsart ein ruhiger und beschaulicher Ort, der durch seine historische Bedeutung und die wunderschöne Natur besticht.
