About: Milbitz

Milbitz, ein Ortsteil der Stadt Königsee, liegt nördlich von Rottenbach als Straßendorf entlang des Flusses Rottenbach. Die Milbitzer Flur ist zu einem Drittel bewaldet. Die landwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche wird wegen der extremen Hanglage bis auf wenige Ackerflächen als Wiesen und Weideland genutzt. Erste Erwähnung bekam Milbitz 1196 mit dem Kloster Paulinzella, zu dem der Ort bis zu dessen Auflösung im Jahre 1534 gehörte. Eine Vielzahl von Wanderwegen ermöglichen den Ausflug durch die Wälder in die umliegenden Orte Rottenbach und Horba, wo man die Ruhe und Schönheit des Thüringer Waldes genießen kann. Auf dem Thüringenweg erreicht man in westlicher Richtung Paulinzella mit seiner romanischen Klosterruine aus dem 12. Jahrhundert, dem Museum zur Kloster-, Forst- und Jagdgeschichte und der Ausstellung "Vom Steinbeil bis zur Motorsäge" sowie in östliche Richtung über Solsdorf und Thälendorf die Burg Greifenstein und Bad Blankenburg.

Milbitz, a district of the town Königsee, is situated north of Rottenbach as a street village along the river Rottenbach. One third of the Milbitz area is forested. The agricultural area is used as meadows and pastures due to the extreme slope situation except for a few arable areas. Milbitz was first mentioned in 1196 with the Paulinzella monastery, to which the village belonged until its dissolution in 1534. A multitude of hiking trails make it possible to go through the woods to the surrounding villages of Rottenbach and Horba, where you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the Thuringian Forest. On the Thuringia Trail you can reach Paulinzella in a westerly direction with its Romanesque monastery ruins from the 12th century, the museum on the history of the monastery, forestry and hunting and the exhibition "From the stone axe to the power saw" as well as Greifenstein Castle and Bad Blankenburg in an easterly direction via Solsdorf and Thälendorf.
