Das Gebäude wurde 1715 als Universitätsballhaus erbaut. Anlässlich des Fürstenkongresses von 1808 begegneten sich hier Napoleon I. und der russische Zar Alexander I. Eine Vielzahl berühmter Künstler wie Niccolo Paganini oder Franz Liszt gaben in diesem Gebäude ihre Konzerte. Und in Anwesenheit des Dichters Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wurde im Kaisersaal die Prosafassung von Friedrich Schillers "Don Carlos" uraufgeführt. Heute ist der Kaisersaal ein Kongress- und Tagungszentrum.

Le bâtiment a été construit en 1715 comme salle de bal universitaire. A l'occasion du congrès princier de 1808, Napoléon Ier et le tsar russe Alexandre Ier s'y sont rencontrés. Un grand nombre d'artistes célèbres comme Niccolo Paganini ou Franz Liszt ont donné leurs concerts dans ce bâtiment. Et c'est en présence du poète Johann Wolfgang von Goethe que la version en prose de "Don Carlos" de Friedrich Schiller a été jouée pour la première fois dans la salle impériale. Aujourd'hui, la salle impériale est un centre de congrès et de conférences.
