Hier leben die Claußens heute, hier produzieren und verkaufen sie ihre rund 35 verschiedenen Weine – und hier bitten sie den Besuch zur Verkostung. Der sich dann fast anfühlt wie in der Toskana: Warm scheint die Sonne in den gepflasterten Innenhof mit den sienarot getünchten Fassaden und den üppig rankenden Weinreben. Bienen summen im Oleander, und am blauen Himmel schlagen Schwalben ihre Kapriolen. Passend dazu schenkt uns Andreas Clauß vom „Castello di Auerstedt“ ein, einem feinfruchtigen Weißwein-Cuvée, der schon alle Verheißungen des Südens in sich trägt. „Weißweine funktionieren am besten bei uns, und der Müller-Thurgau ist die Hauptrebsorte hier“, erzählt er mit dem leicht schwäbischen Zungenschlag, den der gebürtige Esslinger auch nach 28 Jahren in Thüringen nicht verloren hat. „Wir bauen aber auch Riesling, Traminer und Gutedel an, der hier als halbwegs autochthone Rebsorte einfach dazugehört, und neue Rotweinsorten.“ ⠇ Die Weinstöcke werden vor der Ernte gepflegt. Alle schlechten Trauben werden entfernt. ©Andreas Weise, Thüringer Tourismus GmbH 50 Hektar Gesamtrebfläche gehören zum Thüringer Weingut Bad Sulza; manche Weinberge liegen auch in Kunitz bei Jena und unterhalb der Dornburger Schlösser. Unterhalb der Sonnenburg in Bad Sulza hat der drahtige Winzer mit dem grauen Bart außerdem einen alten historischen Terrassenweinberg rekultiviert. „Die Weinstöcke da sind teilweise 100 Jahre alt“, schwärmt er. Er ist – das spürt man – ein engagierter Winzer, der auch mal was ausprobiert. Merlot zum Beispiel, der dank des wärmer werdenden Klimas jetzt auch in Bad Sulza gedeiht. „Unser 2018er- Merlot ist kräftig und ausgewogen und hat auch international überall die volle Punktzahl bekommen. Wollt ihr mal probieren?“ Und ob wir das wollen! Und in der Toskana sollten sie sich besser schon mal warm anziehen. |

Fittingly, Andreas Clauß pours us out a glass of “Castello di Auerstedt”, a fine, fruity white wine cuvée that already embodies all the promise of southern lands. “White wines work best for us and the Müller-Thurgau is the main grape variety here,” he explains with the slight Schwabian accent that the Esslingen native hasn’t lost even after 28 years in Thuringia. “But we also grow Riesling, Traminer and Gutedal – which as a more-or-less autochthonous grape variety just comes as part and parcel – and new red wine varieties. ⠇ The vines are maintained before the harvest. The grey-bearded wiry vintner has also re-cultivated an old, historical terraced vineyard at the foot of the Sonnenburg in Bad Sulza. “Some of the vines there are 100 years old”, he enthuses. You can tell that he is a committed winemaker who is also willing to experiment from time to time. Unterhalb der Sonnenburg in Bad Sulza hat der drahtige Winzer mit dem grauen Bart außerdem einen alten historischen Terrassenweinberg rekultiviert. „Die Weinstöcke da sind teilweise 100 Jahre alt“, schwärmt er. Er ist – das spürt man – ein engagierter Winzer, der auch mal was ausprobiert. Merlot zum Beispiel, der dank des wärmer werdenden Klimas jetzt auch in Bad Sulza gedeiht. „Unser 2018er- Merlot ist kräftig und ausgewogen und hat auch international überall die volle Punktzahl bekommen. Wollt ihr mal probieren?“ Und ob wir das wollen! Und in der Toskana sollten sie sich besser schon mal warm anziehen.</p> |
