Jesus Christ Superstar was Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first major commercial success, preceding Evita, Cats and The Phantom of the Opera. The music clearly reflects the fact that Woodstock was still fresh in people’s minds. Jesus Christ Superstar spent weeks in the British charts as a double LP before the authors adapted the work for the stage and brought it to Broadway. The 1973 Hollywood film adaptation did the rest to make the work one of the most successful plays of the 20th century, despite some protests from Christian conservatives.
The play depicts the last seven days of Jesus of Nazareth, loosely based on the Bible, but not as a story of suffering, rather as a tale of revolution, oppression, greed and, of course, peace and love.
Peter Lund, a familiar face, returns to a former place of work. Regular theatre-goers will remember him particularly well for his rock opera Jedermann, for which he was responsible for the libretto and direction.

W muzyce słychać, że Woodstock nie był jeszcze odległym wspomnieniem. Jesus Christ Superstar przez wiele tygodni utrzymywał się na brytyjskich listach przebojów jako podwójny album LP, zanim autorzy dostosowali dzieło do potrzeb sceny i wystawili je na Broadwayu. Hollywoodzka adaptacja filmowa z 1973 roku zrobiła resztę, aby dzieło to, pomimo protestów ze strony konserwatywnych chrześcijan, stało się jednym z najbardziej udanych spektakli XX wieku.
Przedstawiono ostatnie siedem dni życia Jezusa z Nazaretu, luźno opierając się na Biblii, jednak nie jako historię cierpienia, ale jako opowieść o rewolucji, ucisku, chciwości i oczywiście pokoju i miłości.
Peter Lund, stary znajomy, powraca do miejsca, w którym wcześniej działał. Regularni bywalcy teatru doskonale go pamiętają, zwłaszcza dzięki jego rockowej operze Jedermann, za której libretto i reżyserię był odpowiedzialny.

Die Hollywood-Verfilmung von 1973 tat ihr Übriges, um das Werk, trotz einiger christlich-konservativer Proteste, zu einem der erfolgreichsten Stücke des 20. Jahrhunderts zu machen.
Dargestellt werden die letzten sieben Tage Jesus’ von Nazareth in freier Anlehnung an die Bibel, jedoch nicht als Leidensgeschichte, sondern als Geschichte über Revolution, Unterdrückung, Geldgier und natürlich peace and love.
Mit Peter Lund kommt ein alter Bekannter an eine frühere Wirkungsstätte zurück. Vor allem durch seine Rockoper Jedermann, für dessen Libretto und Regie er verantwortlich zeichnete, ist er regelmäßigen Theatergästen noch bestens in Erinnerung.
