Die ehemaligen Abbaustätten des Thüringer Schiefers mit Schwerpunkt rund um Lehesten, sind eines von 70 nationalen Geotopen Deutschlands. Vom Land des "Blauen Goldes" führt der Abschnitt des Lutherweges weiter nach Probstzella - einem Ort, der unmittelbar von der deutsch-deutschen Teilung betroffen war. Der Bahnhof fungierte zwischen 1949 und 1990 als DDR-Grenzstation. Die Ausstellung im DDR-Grenzbahnhof-Museum im alten Bahnhofsgebäude erzählt von gescheiterten und geglückten Fluchtversuchen über den Grenzbahnhof Probstzella und veranschaulicht die Bahnhofsgeschichte von 1945 bis 1990. Zu sehen sind Original-Exponate, Dokumente und Fotos sowie Film- und Tonausschnitte. In den zwanziger Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts plante der Industriepionier Franz Itting in Probstzella ein Bauwerk, das durch seine Ausstrahlung der rückständigen Region um Probstzella neue Entwicklungsperspektiven geben sollte. Der Saalfelder Architekt Klapprodt entwarf daraufhin ein Gebäude in traditionellen, klassischen Formideen. Sohn Gotthard Itting machte seinen Vater mit dem Bauhaus-Schüler und -Meister Alfred Arndt bekannt und überzeugte Franz Itting von den Vorzügen moderner Bauhausformen. Alfred Arndt erhielt den Auftrag, den angefangenen Bau im Sinne des Bauhauses umzugestalten und weiter zu führen. Eisenbeton- und Stahlbaukonstruktionen verbinden sich mit neuen Ausbaumaterialien zu den für das Bauhaus um 1928 bis 1932 charakteristischen Formen. Mit dem "Haus des Volkes" entstand in Probstzella das größte Bauhausobjekt Thüringens und ein kulturelles Zentrum mit Kino, Festsälen, Theater, Restaurant, Café, Parkanlage und Sportanlagen. Das ehemalige "Haus des Volkes" ist heute ein Bauhaus-Hotel, das das imposante Bauhaus-Ensemble mit farbiger Innengestaltung, Bauhaus-Ausstattung und den herrlichen Ausblick vom Restaurant im Blauen Saal oder auf der Arndt-Terasse erlebbar macht.  Zu den bedeutenden Persönlichkeiten während der Reformation in der Region zählte der Holzbildhauer Hans Gottwalt von Lohr. In Saalfeld fand Gottwalt eine größere Zahl von Schnitzwerkstätten und eine Saalfelder Schnitzer- und Malerschule vor, wo er seine Arbeit als Schüler des berühmten Tilman Riemenschneiders aufnahm. So ist die individuelle Handschrift ab 1503 an etlichen Erzeugnissen der Werkstatt Lendenstreichs auszumachen. Gegen 1518 setzten in Saalfeld reformatorische Strömungen ein. 1524 schaffte der Stadtrat in Saalfeld die katholische Messe ab. Die Urkunden besagen, dass sich der katholische Abt Georg von Thüna zu dieser Zeit bei Martin Luther um einen protestantischen Priester für die Besetzung der Pfarrstelle in Gorndorf bemühte. Bevor man nach Saalfeld, "Steinerne Chronik Thüringens" genannt, gelangt, sollte man unbedingt einen Zwischenstopp an den Saalfelder Feengrotten, den farbenreichsten Schaugrotten der Welt, einlegen und sich verzaubern lassen von der märchenhaften Untertagewelt.  Luthers Gastgeber und Wegbegleiter in Saalfeld war Caspar Aquila, einer der bedeutendsten Reformatoren Thüringens. Luther selbst weilte einige Male in Saalfeld und predigte in der Stadtkirche St. Johannis, deren Chorgewölbe die bildliche Darstellung einer "Himmelswiese" aufweist.

Les anciens sites d'extraction de l'ardoise de Thuringe, principalement autour de Lehesten, sont l'un des 70 géotopes nationaux allemands. De la terre de « l'or bleu », la section du Lutherweg mène à Probstzella, un lieu directement affecté par la division allemande. La gare a fonctionné entre 1949 et 1990 comme poste-frontière de la RDA. L'exposition dans le musée de la gare frontière DDR, situé dans l'ancien bâtiment de la gare, raconte les tentatives d'évasion ratées et réussies via la gare frontière de Probstzella et illustre l'histoire de la gare de 1945 à 1990. On peut y voir des objets originaux, documents, photos ainsi que des extraits de films et de sons. Dans les années 1920, le pionnier industriel Franz Itting planifia à Probstzella un bâtiment destiné à offrir de nouvelles perspectives de développement à la région reculée. L'architecte de Saalfeld Klapprodt conçut un bâtiment selon des idées classiques et traditionnelles. Le fils Gotthard Itting fit connaître son père au maître et élève du Bauhaus Alfred Arndt et convainquit Franz Itting des avantages des formes modernes du Bauhaus. Alfred Arndt reçut la commande de remodeler et poursuivre la construction commencée selon les principes du Bauhaus. Les constructions en béton armé et en acier s’associent à de nouveaux matériaux pour former les formes caractéristiques du Bauhaus entre 1928 et 1932. Le "Maison du peuple" a ainsi été le plus grand objet Bauhaus de Thuringe à Probstzella, un centre culturel avec cinéma, salles de fête, théâtre, restaurant, café, parc et installations sportives. L’ancienne "Maison du peuple" est aujourd'hui un hôtel Bauhaus, qui rend l'ensemble impressionnant avec sa décoration intérieure colorée, son équipement Bauhaus, et la superbe vue depuis le restaurant dans la salle bleue ou sur la terrasse Arndt. Parmi les personnalités importantes de la Réforme dans la région se trouvait le sculpteur sur bois Hans Gottwalt von Lohr. À Saalfeld, Gottwalt trouva un grand nombre d’ateliers de sculpture sur bois et une école de sculpture et peinture, où il commença à travailler en tant qu’élève du célèbre Tilman Riemenschneider. Ainsi, la signature individuelle est reconnaissable dès 1503 sur plusieurs œuvres de l’atelier Lendenstreich. Vers 1518, des courants réformateurs apparurent à Saalfeld. En 1524, le conseil municipal de Saalfeld abolit la messe catholique. Les documents montrent que l'abbé catholique Georg von Thüna sollicita à ce moment-là Martin Luther pour qu’un pasteur protestant soit nommé pour la paroisse de Gorndorf. Avant d’arriver à Saalfeld, surnommé la "Chronique de pierre de la Thuringe", il est indispensable de s’arrêter aux grottes des fées de Saalfeld, les plus colorées au monde, et de se laisser enchanter par ce monde souterrain féerique. L'hôte et compagnon de route de Luther à Saalfeld était Caspar Aquila, l’un des réformateurs thuringiens les plus importants. Luther lui-même séjourna plusieurs fois à Saalfeld et prêcha dans l’église de la ville St. Johannis, dont la voûte de chœur représente une « prairie céleste » en images.

The former mining sites of Thuringian slate, focused around Lehesten, are one of Germany's 70 national geotopes. From the land of the "Blue Gold" the section of the Luther Trail continues to Probstzella - a place directly affected by the German-German division. The station served as a GDR border station between 1949 and 1990. The exhibition in the GDR Border Station Museum in the old station building tells of failed and successful escape attempts over the Probstzella border station and illustrates the station's history from 1945 to 1990. Original exhibits, documents and photos as well as film and sound excerpts can be seen. In the 1920s, industrial pioneer Franz Itting planned a building in Probstzella that should give new development prospects to the backward region around Probstzella through its aura. The Saalfeld architect Klapprodt subsequently designed a building in traditional, classical form ideas. Son Gotthard Itting introduced his father to the Bauhaus student and master Alfred Arndt and convinced Franz Itting of the advantages of modern Bauhaus forms. Alfred Arndt was commissioned to redesign and continue the partially completed building in the spirit of the Bauhaus. Reinforced concrete and steel constructions combine with new finishing materials to form the characteristic shapes of the Bauhaus around 1928 to 1932. With the "House of the People," Probstzella became the largest Bauhaus object in Thuringia and a cultural center with cinema, banquet halls, theater, restaurant, café, park, and sports facilities. The former "House of the People" is today a Bauhaus hotel that makes the impressive Bauhaus ensemble with colorful interior design, Bauhaus equipment, and the wonderful view from the restaurant in the Blue Hall or on the Arndt Terrace experienceable. Among the significant personalities during the Reformation in the region was the woodcarver Hans Gottwalt von Lohr. In Saalfeld, Gottwalt found a larger number of carving workshops and a Saalfeld carving and painting school where he began his work as a student of the famous Tilman Riemenschneider. Thus, the individual hand is recognizable from 1503 on numerous products of the Lendenstreich workshop. Around 1518, reformatory currents set in in Saalfeld. In 1524, the city council of Saalfeld abolished the Catholic Mass. Documents state that at this time, the Catholic abbot Georg von Thüna sought a Protestant priest from Martin Luther for the appointment of the parish post in Gorndorf. Before you reach Saalfeld, called the "Stone Chronicle of Thuringia," you should definitely make a stop at the Saalfeld Feengrotten, the most colorful show caves in the world, and be enchanted by the magical underground world. Luther's host and companion in Saalfeld was Caspar Aquila, one of the most important Reformers of Thuringia. Luther himself stayed several times in Saalfeld and preached in the St. Johannis church, whose chancel vault shows a pictorial representation of a "heavenly meadow."
