Es ist Sommer 1963: Die Ermordung John F. Kennedys hat noch nicht stattgefunden, die Jugendkultur steckt noch nicht einmal in den Kinderschuhen. Die USA befinden sich im Zustand der Unschuld. Diese wirkt auf die 17 jährige Frances Houseman allerdings erdrückend. Frances, von allen nur ‘Baby’ genannt, plant Ökonomie zu studieren und Friedensaktivistin zu werden. Für den Moment ist sie allerdings mit ihrer Familie in einem Wellness Resort ‘gefangen’, in dem sie gelangweilt ihren Urlaub absitzt. Ihre Lage gewinnt jedoch an Reiz, als sie sich in den Tanzlehrer und Schwerenöter Johnnie Castle verguckt. Als Johnnies Partnerin am Tanzen gehindert wird, erhält Baby ihre große Chance. Denn: Johnnie tanzt auf der Abschlussfeier stets den letzten Tanz der Saison und benötigt eine Partnerin. Babys zweifelhafte Tanzkünste bedürfen allerdings der Verbesserung. Beim intensiven Training wächst nicht nur Babys Können, auch Johnnies Gefühle können sich ihrem naiv-trotzigen Charme immer weniger entziehen. Doch sowohl ihre aufkeimende Liebe als auch die geplante Performance stehen unter keinem guten Stern. Erstere wird von Babys Vater gar nicht gerne gesehen. Was die geplante Performance angeht, besteht sie für den Vorgesetztem von Johnnie aus eindeutig zu viel Dirty Dancing, um am gepflegtem Abschiedsabend bestehen zu können. Werden die beiden es schaffen, gegen alle Widerstände zu tanzen? Wird Baby bei den ersten Berührungen von Johnnie kichern oder wie so oft den finalen Sprung vermasseln?
It is the summer of 1963: John F. Kennedy has not yet been assassinated, and youth culture is not even in its infancy. The United States is in a state of innocence. For 17-year-old Frances Houseman, however, this feels suffocating. Frances, known to everyone as “Baby,” plans to study economics and become a peace activist. For the moment, however, she is “trapped” with her family at a wellness resort, where she is bored out of her mind, just sitting out her vacation. Her situation becomes more exciting, though, when she falls for the dance instructor and womanizer Johnnie Castle.When Johnnie’s partner is unable to dance, Baby gets her big chance. Because: Johnnie always dances the final dance of the season at the prom and needs a partner. However, Baby’s questionable dancing skills need improvement. As they train intensively, not only do Baby’s skills improve, but Johnnie’s feelings also find it increasingly difficult to resist her naive, defiant charm.But both their budding love and the planned performance are ill-fated. The former is strongly disapproved of by Baby’s father. As for the planned performance, Johnnie’s boss considers it far too much “Dirty Dancing” to be suitable for a proper farewell party. Will the two of them manage to dance against all odds? Will Baby giggle at Johnnie’s first touches or, as so often, mess up the final jump?
