Behrungen est situé dans la vallée alluviale du ruisseau "Bahra", à la frontière sud-ouest du district de Schmalkalden- Meiningen, à environ 25 km au sud de Meiningen, 11 km de Römhild, 9 km de Mellrichstadt et 20 km de Bad Königshofen. Le village a été mentionné pour la première fois sous le nom de "Villa Pahringe" en 795. Les nombreuses maisons à colombages, belles et bien conservées, donnent au centre du village un cachet particulier. L'église, la mairie et l'école (ancien bâtiment administratif de la cave de Behrungen) mettent un accent particulier. L'ensemble du centre-ville et le village situé à l'intérieur d'un circuit carrossable sont classés monuments historiques. Behrungen, qui se trouvait dans la zone frontalière de l'ancienne RDA, directement à la frontière germano-allemande, possède aujourd'hui encore des témoins architecturaux de l'époque, comme une tour frontalière, un morceau de clôture frontalière et une baraque en bois qui servait de logement à la police des frontières. Dans l'isolement de la bande frontalière, de précieux biotopes ont été préservés, dans lesquels une multitude d'espèces animales et végétales menacées ont pu survivre jusqu'à présent. La réserve naturelle "Seeben", avec ses différentes structures de végétation et la diversité de ses espèces, dépasse largement le cadre de la commune. Depuis des années, des chevaux sont élevés à Behrungen. Le haras "Eschenhof" n'est pas seulement intéressant pour les acheteurs et les éleveurs, il offre également un programme varié aux habitants et aux visiteurs. Un paysage associatif varié aide à préserver le patrimoine culturel et propose de nombreux temps forts culturels. La "Heimatstube" du village, avec ses pièces d'exposition datant du "temps des grands-mères", ne donne pas seulement un aperçu intéressant de la vie du village d'autrefois, mais transmet également des connaissances sur la faune locale grâce à une exposition de taxidermie. En 1993, Behrungen a remporté le concours de l'État libre de Thuringe "Notre village doit être plus beau" et a obtenu la deuxième place au concours fédéral en 1995. Le quartier de Behrungen compte 555 habitants et sa superficie est de 1382 ha.

Behrungen is located in the floodplain of the stream "Bahra", on the southwestern border of the district Schmalkalden- Meiningen, about 25 km south of Meiningen, 11 km from Römhild, 9 km from Mellrichstadt and 20 km from Bad Königshofen. The village was first mentioned under the name "Villa Pahringe" in 795. The many beautiful and well-preserved half-timbered houses give the village center a special character. The church, the town hall and the school (former office building of the Behrungen winery) set special accents. The entire village center and the village layout within a drivable circular route are under monument protection. Behrungen, which was located in the border area of the former GDR, directly on the German-German border, still has architectural witnesses, such as a border tower, a piece of border fence and a wooden barrack, which served as accommodation for the border police. In the seclusion of the border strip, valuable biotopes have been preserved, in which a large number of endangered animal and plant species have been able to survive. The nature reserve "Seeben" with its different vegetation structures and a variety of species is of importance far beyond the boundaries of the district. Horses have been bred in Behrungen for years. The stud farm "Eschenhof" is not only interesting for buyers and breeders, but also offers a varied program for locals and visitors. A varied landscape of associations helps to preserve the cultural heritage and offers numerous cultural highlights. The local history museum, with its exhibits from "grandma's times", not only provides interesting insights into former village life, but also conveys knowledge about the local animal world through a taxidermy show. In 1993, Behrungen was the state winner of the Free State of Thuringia in the competition "Our village shall become more beautiful" and took 2nd place in the federal competition in 1995. The village of Behrungen has 555 inhabitants and an area of 1382 ha.

Behrungen liegt in der Talaue des Baches "Bahra", an der südwestlichen Grenze des Landkreises Schmalkalden- Meiningen, ca. 25 km südlich von Meiningen, 11 km von Römhild, 9 km von Mellrichstadt und 20 km von Bad Königshofen. Erstmalig wurde der Ort unter dem Namen "Villa Pahringe" im Jahr 795 erwähnt. Die vielen schönen und gut erhaltenen Fachwerkhäuser geben dem Ortskern ein besonderes Gepräge. Kirche, Rathaus und Schule (ehemaliges Amtshaus der Kellerei Behrungen) setzen besondere Akzente. Der gesamte Ortskern und die Dorfanlage innerhalb eines befahrbaren Rundweges stehen unter Denkmalschutz. Behrungen, das im Grenzgebiet der ehemaligen DDR lag, unmittelbar an der deutsch-deutschen Grenze, besitzt heute noch bauliche Zeitzeugen, wie einen Grenzturm, ein Stück Grenzzaun und eine Holzbaracke, die als Unterkunft der Grenzpolizei diente. In der Abgeschiedenheit des Grenzstreifens haben sich wertvolle Biotope erhalten, in denen eine Vielzahl bedrohter Tier- und Pflanzenarten bisher überleben konnten. Das Naturschutzgebiet "Seeben" mit seinen verschiedenen Vegetationsstrukturen und einer Vielfalt der Artenausstattung ragt in seiner Bedeutung weit über den Gemarkungsbereich hinaus. Seit Jahren werden in Behrungen Pferde gezüchtet. Das Gestüt "Eschenhof" ist nicht nur für Käufer und Züchter interessant, sondern bietet auch für Einheimische und Besucher ein abwechslungsreiches Programm. Eine vielseitige Vereinslandschaft hilft das kulturelle Erbe zu bewahren und bietet zahlreiche kulturelle Höhepunkte. Die Heimatstube des Ortes, mit seinen Ausstellungsstücken aus "Omas-Zeiten", gibt nicht nur interessante Einblicke in das frühere Dorfleben, sondern vermittelt durch eine Präparationsschau Kenntnisse über die heimische Tierwelt. 1993 wurde Behrungen Landessieger des Freistaates Thüringen im Wettbewerb "Unser Dorf soll schöner werden" und belegte im Bundeswettbewerb einen 2. Platz im Jahr 1995. Der Ortsteil Behrungen hat 555 Einwohner und eine Gemarkungsfläche von 1382 ha.
