There is evidence of a pastor in the village as early as 1263, so there must have already been a church or chapel. The church was first mentioned in a document in 1297 and was designated a parish church in 1303. In addition to the church, there was the Oßmannstedt Chapel, which was donated in 1297 as a patronage to the Marienknecht Monastery in Himmelgarten, Russungen, near Nordhausen. The current church most likely had a predecessor building. This is evidenced by architectural elements on the church tower. A pointed-arch door on its north side leads into a Gothic room (presumably the crypt). The tower has three stories, rising to half the height of the nave’s roof. Light slits, typical of the Middle Ages, can be seen on the lower stories. On the second story, four late-Gothic pointed-arch windows are visible. The bells were later brought into the tower through these windows. Three bells hang in the tower. Two of them, made of cast iron, were replaced in 1915. The small bell was cast in public in 1999 during the Harvest Festival. All the bells bear dedicatory inscriptions. The late-Gothic nave, with its pointed-arch windows, is 23.8 meters long and 9.80 meters wide. Records indicate that master builder Nicolaus Deiner carried out renovations in 1610. He skillfully converted the church into a Protestant preaching church in the form of a gallery hall. Rows of wooden pillars divide the space into three aisles. The side aisles have flat ceilings and are equipped with galleries across their entire width. The central aisle is covered by a pointed wooden barrel vault. The baptismal font is decorated with angel heads and ornaments. A coat of arms belonging to the Teuner family is displayed there. An oil painting, a gift from the hunting leaseholder Gimprecht, hangs above the baptismal font. The Baroque pulpit stands behind the 17th-century altar. Figures of Mary and John can be seen next to the pulpit, as well as two epitaphs of the Harras family. The organ, built in 1810 by the workshop of organ builder Johann Benjamin Witzmann from Stadtilm and located on the west gallery, was rededicated on June 26, 2010, following its restoration by Orgelbau Waltershausen. It features 21 stops distributed across two manuals and a pedalboard. The crucifix stands in the entrance area.
