In 1956, a monument was erected near the bank of the Ilm in honour of the national poet and ardent admirer of classical German literature, Adam Bernard Mickiewicz. The work of the studied scientist and man of letters founded Polish Romanticism. Already in his early youth he was considered a great admirer of Goethe and Schiller - especially of their ideas of freedom. In August 1829 he was present as a guest at the celebrations of Goethe's 80th birthday in Weimar, staying in the "Hotel Elephant" on the market square. The monument was created and erected in 1956 by the German sculptor Gerhard Thieme.
In der Nähe des Ilmufers wurde 1956 zu Ehren des Nationaldichters und glühenden Verehrers der klassischen deutschen Literatur, Adam Bernard Mickiewicz, ein Denkmal errichtet. Das Werk des studierten Naturwissenschaftlers und Literaten begründete die polnische Romantik. Schon in früher Jugend galt er als großer Verehrer von Goethe und Schiller – insbesondere von deren Freiheitsgedanken. Im August 1829 war er als Gast bei den Feierlichkeiten zu Goethes 80. Geburtstag in Weimar anwesend, wohnte im "Hotel Elephant“ am Markt. Das Denkmal wurde im Jahr 1956 vom deutschen Bildhauer Gerhard Thieme erschaffen und aufgestellt.

L'œuvre de ce scientifique et homme de lettres a donné naissance au romantisme polonais. Dès sa prime jeunesse, il était considéré comme un grand admirateur de Goethe et de Schiller, notamment de leurs idées sur la liberté. En août 1829, il était présent en tant qu'invité aux festivités du 80e anniversaire de Goethe à Weimar et logeait à l'"Hôtel Elephant" sur le marché.
