Dans la vallée pittoresque de la Luhne et de la Gieße, devant les bois de la Hollau, se trouve l'ancien monastère cistercien d'Anrode. Bien avant la fondation du monastère, il y avait à cet endroit une petite colonie de peuplement, qui est encore décrite aujourd'hui par le complexe du monastère d'Anrode. Au 13e siècle, le vieux village de l'église a cessé d'être un village et a été relancé par le monastère nouvellement fondé. L'ordre a connu son apogée au cours des quatre-vingts premières années de son existence. L'histoire politique, économique et religieuse mouvementée du monastère montre que cette prospérité n'est pas prête de revenir. Pendant la guerre des paysans au XVIe siècle, le monastère a été attaqué, pillé et détruit. Un incendie déclenché a détruit toute la propriété jusqu'aux murs de fondation. Le monastère rénové a de nouveau été amené au bord de l'abîme pendant la guerre de 30 ans, de 1618 à 1648. En 1649, il était encore possible de reconstruire les bâtiments agricoles nécessaires et l'église du monastère a été reconstruite. En 1810, le couvent est fermé par décret. L'histoire du monastère s'est achevée après plus de 500 ans d'existence. Après cela, c'était un domaine et une propriété familiale. Des raisons économiques l'ont ensuite contraint à être vendu au district de Mühlhausen. Dans les années 1928/29, une usine de torréfaction du lin a été construite. De 1950 à 1989, la corderie y a installé une usine de production. En 1993, la municipalité de Bickenriede a acheté les bâtiments. Aujourd'hui, il y a une fondation pour le monastère d'Anrode. En coopération avec divers partenaires, des travaux sont actuellement en cours pour restaurer soigneusement le bâtiment et lui donner une nouvelle affectation. Les approches prometteuses sont la restauration d'anciennes écuries et leur aménagement en musée des anciennes traditions artisanales, mais aussi la restauration de la grange historique, dans laquelle des événements culturels intéressants ont déjà lieu depuis plusieurs années. Depuis octobre 2000, les clients peuvent visiter le nouveau restaurant historique "Schinkenkrug" les week-ends et les jours fériés sur rendez-vous.
In the scenic valley of the Luhne and the Gieße, in front of the woods of the Hollau, lies the former Cistercian monastery of Anrode. Long before the monastery was founded, there was a small settlement in this place, which is still described today by the Anrode monastery complex. In the 13th century the old church village ceased to be a village and was revived by the newly founded monastery. The order experienced its heyday in the first eighty years of its existence. The monastery's chequered political, economic and religious history showed that such prosperity was not to return. During the Peasants' War in the 16th century, the monastery was raided, looted and destroyed. A fire that was set destroyed the entire property down to the foundation walls. The renewed monastery was again brought to the brink of the abyss during the 30-year war from 1618-1648. In 1649 it was still possible to rebuild the necessary farm buildings and the monastery church was rebuilt. In 1810 the convent was closed by decree. The history of the monastery was finished after more than 500 years of existence. After that it was an estate and a family property. Economic reasons then forced it to be sold to the district of Mühlhausen. In the years 1928/29 a flax roasting plant was built. From 1950 to 1989 the rope factory set up a production plant here. In 1993 the municipality of Bickenriede bought the buildings. Today there is a foundation for the Anrode monastery. In cooperation with various partners, work is currently underway to carefully restore the building and to put it to a new use. Promising approaches are the restoration of old stables and their development into a museum for old craft traditions, but also the restoration of the historic barn, in which interesting cultural events have already been taking place for several years. Since October 2000, guests have been able to visit the newly established historic restaurant "Schinkenkrug" at weekends and on public holidays by appointment.
In dem landschaftlich reizvollen Tal der Luhne und der Gieße, vor den Waldungen der Hollau, liegt das ehemalige Zisterzienserkloster Anrode. Lange vor der Klostergründung gab es eine kleine Siedlung an diesem Ort, der heute noch durch die Klosteranlage Anrode beschrieben ist. Im 13. Jahrhundert hörte das alte Kirchendorf auf, Dorf zu sein, und wurde durch das neu gegründete Kloster wiederbelebt. Der Orden erlebte in den ersten achtzig Jahren seines Bestehens die Blütezeit. Die wechselvolle politische, wirtschaftliche und religiöse Geschichte des Klosters zeigte, dass ein solcher Wohlstand nicht wiederkehren sollte. Während des Bauernkrieges im 16. Jahrhundert wurde das Kloster überfallen, geplündert und zerstört. Ein gelegter Brand vernichtete das gesamte Anwesen bis auf die Grundmauern. Das erneuerte Kloster wurde im Dreißigjährigen Krieg von 1618-1648 wiederum an den Rand des Abgrunds gebracht. Im Jahr 1649 gelang es noch, die notwendigen Wirtschaftsgebäude wieder zu errichten und ein Umbau der Klosterkirche erfolgte. 1810 wurde durch ein Dekret das Frauenkloster geschlossen. Die Geschichte des Klosters war nach über 500-jährigem Bestehen beendet. Danach war es ein Gutbetrieb und ein Familienanwesen. Wirtschaftliche Gründe zwangen dann doch zum Verkauf an den Landkreis Mühlhausen. In den Jahren 1928/29 entstand eine Flachsröste. Von 1950 bis 1989 richtete die Seilerfabrik hier eine Produktionsstätte ein. 1993 kaufte die Gemeinde Bickenriede die Gebäude. Heute existiert eine Stiftung für das Kloster Anrode. In der Zusammenarbeit verschiedener Partner wird gegenwärtig daran gearbeitet, behutsam zu restaurieren und Altes einer neuen Nutzung zuzuführen. Erfolg versprechende Ansätze sind die Restaurierung alter Stallungen und deren Ausbau zu einem Museum für alte Handwerkstraditionen, aber auch die Restaurierung der historischen Scheune, in der bereits seit mehreren Jahren interessante Kulturveranstaltungen stattfinden. Seit Oktober 2000 können Gäste an Wochenenden und an Feiertagen nach Anmeldung in der neu eingerichteten historischen Gaststätte "Schinkenkrug" einkehren.
