Der Raum des Gotteshauses ist eine Sehenswürdigkeit, außen wie innen, ein Kleinod. Die Kirche besitzt noch Ansätze einer altromanischen Zentralkirchenbauweise. Spätere Umbauten sind gotisch und barock und veränderten das Aussehen. Auffällig ist der gelbe Fachwerkturm. Die Kirche ist evangelisch und wird vom Kirchenkreis Mühlhausen betreut. Hier finden regelmäßig Gottesdienste statt. Die Kirche liegt am Pilgerweg Loccum-Volkenroda.
