The Augustinian monastery in Gotha, along with its associated Augustinian church, is over 700 years old, making it the first in Thuringia (even predating the famous branch founded in Erfurt). The Gothic cloister, dating from 1366, still serves as a reminder of the golden age of the mendicant orders. The interior of the Augustinian Church in Gotha was renovated and given a Baroque makeover under Duke Frederick I of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg from 1676 to 1680. In addition to a commemorative plaque marking Luther’s stays at the monastery as district vicar, visitors can also view the tombstone of Gotha’s reformer, Friedrich Myconius. Today, the complex belongs to the Protestant city parish, which operates a community center with a café and guesthouse there.
Gotycki krużganek z 1366 roku do dziś przypomina o wielkiej epoce zakonów żebraczych. Wnętrze kościoła augustianów w Gotha zostało przebudowane i dostosowane do stylu barokowego w latach 1676–1680 za panowania księcia Fryderyka I z Saksonii-Gotha-Altenburga. Oprócz tablicy pamiątkowej upamiętniającej pobyty Lutra w klasztorze, gdzie pełnił funkcję wikariusza okręgowego, można tu również obejrzeć płytę nagrobną reformatora z Gotha, Fryderyka Myconiusza. Obiekt ten należy obecnie do ewangelickiej parafii miejskiej, która prowadzi w nim centrum spotkań z kawiarnią i schroniskiem.
